Hello fellow pilots,
I am Tyler Arnold, a high school junior and flight student in North Carolina. For my AP Capstone Research course, I am looking into the relationship between flight training and the airline pilot shortage. For my research, I will need subjects to take a short survey that goes over their experiences in flight training. For more information or if you would like to participate in this study, please email me at tdarnold@aggies.ncat.edu.

Happy flying!

Do you want professional path pilots or hobby pilots?

What is the recency of training you’re looking for opinions on? Some guys here trained when you had to wear scarfs and goggles.)

What training ? PPL? Commercial?

Can you tell I design surveys and do survey analysis for a living ? :)

I can work with both professional and hobby pilots and pilots of all levels. My survey asks what license the pilot holds so I am able to see if one specific license generally has more issues. As for recency of training, that is definitely a good point but for my research I can survey all pilots regardless of when they trained. Thanks for the questions, hope that helps!

The premise of your research may be flawed with regard to an airline pilot shortage at the present time.

Thank you for the feedback. In projections I have seen regarding airline demand (I am primarily referencing outlooks from CAE), demand for airline pilots will return to what it was pre-pandemic (if not increase) once travel becomes safe. Additionally, when I outlined my scope for approval of my research, one point I made was that I would disregard numbers related to the pandemic because the shortage had been an issue well before COVID and it will likely remain an issue once the pandemic has passed.
Thanks again for your feedback!

Most "coming pilot shortages" seems to be invented by the big flight schools for advertising purposes.

Overall pilot demand has been rather strong for the last 25 years.
