Air Wagner..... He’s baaaaackk.

I learned if you go missed due to mins, head to your alternate, and if you go missed due to improperly piloting the approach, then in certain circumstances a second try may be acceptable from a safety standpoint. I’m a low hour new IR pilot.

Seems like he tried 3 times...probably due to mins the first 2 times, but maybe due also to botching each approach, lol.

I would not have such limitations, use your own judgment.
If the weather is improving and conditions benign, and you have the fuel, then why not give it another try? I’ve taken 3 times to get in once, but it was coastal fog that I knew was burning off. I could have waited an hour and probably been VFR, but since you need to maintain currency anyway I just kept trying.
One thing about IFR conditions, there’s much less traffic, ATC can be less busy, unless it’s hard ifr and it’s a busy airspace.

Not that it matters to that guy, but I'm thankful he isn't paid to carry passengers.

This, I think we all can agree with. Although even if someone hired him, they’d beat the behaviors out of him or he’d wash out hopefully.

I lost interest and compassion in whether or not he splats himself, after hearing multiple very good instructors have reached out to him to help him learn better habits.

The only people I would shed a tear for are his passengers, if he takes one out with him, and secondarily the loss of aircraft that we are no longer building any of.

And of course the insurance rate increases for the rest of us.

All this “I don’t want to see him harm himself” silliness. Who cares once he’s ignored offers to learn from true professionals?

He’s settled into his roll of providing solid examples of questionable decision making and got stuck there by the internet fame that started all the way back when he flew under a bridge a long time ago.

He actually treated his wife like a human being, instead of berating her on camera in this one. That was what actually surprised me. A new trick from the old dog. Nice. We’ll see if that continues. He’ll probably use the sterile cockpit comments from this one to beat her up with, in the next one.

If he splats without a passenger I’ll feel more sorry for the loss of the airframe than anything. Sorry if that bothers anybody, but just being honest. Long ago I thought maybe he was just clueless and a good CFII could reach him.

Multiple videos and years later, I’ve realized he’s not built that way. Ohhh well. Here’s hoping he doesn’t destroy a nice twin or kill a passenger. That’s about all I can hope for now.

What do you suppose his wife has read late at night that causes her to question every knob he touches or lever he throws? She knows him far better than any of us do. She just doesn’t understand the standards of flying cabin blast twins that he regularly busts. She seems like a nice lady, she likely knows she’s taking some additional risk flying with him at this point.

“Oh just ignore those comments on YouTube honey, they’re just jealous.” Or whatever he tells her. There’s no way she hasn’t seen some. And her questioning constantly in this video, appears to confirm that.

If he truly is BSing her at home, he’s fully invested in the public persona and won’t be dropping it, although as Mark has said, the self-deprecating humor tends to indicate he knows he’s doing it now for the gathered internet crowd, watching him walk the tightrope and spotlight he created for himself.

Tough thing to extract yourself from, lying to yourself that what you’re doing is “fine” and you don’t need any offered professional help doing it better. Lots of us do that in other less public ways.

I’ve learned I’m bad at plumbing. Took three bad jobs to get me to hire a pro every time. He’s way over three now. The chances he reverses his stubbornness are very low.

Which video was that? Would like to see it.

So is there a repository or collection of the bad ones that have been captured?

As Nate points put, he has sort of hit a niche of illustrating really poor ADM at a level that has not killed him - yet!

He does not appear to be claiming copyright on them.

I watch a lot of YouTube aviation videos, but somehow I’ve managed to miss this guy until today. Seeing that “VFR” diving 70 degree bank through the clouds to land on a wet runway with a tailwind was a special moment.

There was a guy who saved one of the other good ones which Jerry removed and posted it on some other site. It was reported and removed.
Jerry doesn't have to "claim" a copyright. He "has" a copyright. The requirement for a notice for US copyright protection went away in 1989.

You know, I watched that video and I saw a 45 degree turn and I didn't see him fly through any clouds. What he did is still reckless in my opinion, but not sure he busted any rules, although he edited a lot out too, but that's what I saw.

Yeah this one is one where reg busting really is questionable, but that’s how he gets ya... every video posted has numerous questionable items and the ones truly busting regs get taken down quicker than the rest.

You start out thinking, “Ah yeah I’ve done that... once...” and after the tenth video you’re like, “It’s every single video he posts! Wow...”

I think Mark and I both have mentioned this before but PoA is many years late to the party discussing Jerry. There’s a couple other aviation Internet forums that have been documenting the shenanigans for years longer.

Mark even had to describe (offline once) the favorite one of his, it was gone before I even stumbled upon the neverending dumpster fire. LOL.

My favorite truly is still him bombing out of the bottom of IMC in a similar 45 degree bank, that he didn’t even know he was in, while he was completely lost on an approach he’s probably flown a hundred or more times. And blaming it all on his autopilot while he was hand-flying the entire thing on purpose and literally said so on the in-cockpit audio while adding the autopilot excuse in post-production. Ha.

Actually that’s been one of the more recent fun things is once he learned how to punch in voice overs after the fact, the excuses he convinces himself of and puts in the over-dubs are downright delusional. They’re usually so bad all you can do is laugh.

Q: What kind of person buys a pressurized 8-seat twin to fly mostly solo or with one passenger at 2,000 feet?
A: The same kind of person who flies a full circle around a Buddhist temple full of people trying to meditate for the benefit of his YouTube viewers.

He did mention he pulled power back to lower noise levels.

A. If you have the money....

I just wonder if it's all an act. As we know, an IFR flight flown PTS standards is about as exciting to watch as sap running in January. All of the swooping and diving and cloud busting makes for exciting footage and youtube clicks. I just wonder who he knows at FSDO to keep from being squashed by the man. That drone guy recently got fined up to his eyeballs for youtube content that potentially busts FARs yet Jerry gets a pass.

I would like to see someone he knows get through to him. He seems like a genuinely good person that needs a mentor to help his ADM skills.

That was where I started too. Hasn’t happened. Sadly the internet “fans” of his approach have only served to solidify his opinion that he doesn’t need anybody or any attempt at skills increases over time.

Which is probably the biggest ADM takeaway.

The day someone decides that they can’t learn anything more about aviation from anyone, is the day their risk starts to accelerate. Because they’ll multiply and solidify errors into solid bad habits.

Putting it on YouTube, you can always find a crowd that will agree your bad habits are just fine... every YouTube aviation “celebrity” has mistakes in their videos. It’s really about how they respond to them when someone mentions it to them.

Most say they recognize the problem and describe how they plan to fix it.

Yeah. It’s how I’ve always felt about him and probably always will since I first heard about him when this thread started a while back.

For example, showing how it can and probably should be done:

ETA: Not the clickbait title. That's just par for the course. The video itself doesn't have a lot of over-the-top scariness, just a straightforward dissection of what went wrong, how he had planned for the landing, and how he should have dealt with the problem, including his new personal rule to avoid the same problem in the future.

I've been tempted to put a disclaimer on some of my videos. "Edited to make me seem a better pilot than I really am."

My internet persona and dinner party behavior needs that.

“Censored to make me seem like a better person than I really am.”

LOL.

Probably my “this meeting could have been an e-mai that I could have ignored” thoughts at work, too. Hahaha.

that's some impressive editing!

I’m just glad Mark didn’t film the day he flew with me while I looked for an airport I’ve flown out of a thousand times.

“I can’t freaking see the water tanks or the enormous control tower... but I know I’m just about to bust their Delta so it’s time to call them!”

At least I knew that much I guess... hahaha.

Recording silliness like that for YouTube? Not in my current plans. Hahaha.

Well, you were hungry. It was a fly-in meal after all.

No comments on the apparent stall at 37:49? I guess it's become routine, but I still watch for them like finding a "Mickey" at Disney World.

Jerry is a master at not giving an F. I kind of admire it, the guy seems like a pretty good stick, knows how to fly the airplane well VMC, but exhibits some what I consider unsafe behaviors and methods. These would easily get excised if he spent a couple hours with a CFII twice a year.

Anyway, he defends himself somewhat and explains some things that should be obvious in the video below.

Now am I defending him? No, but I do admire a certain level of trolling. That said, I have seen enough that I wouldn't fly with him were I to have the opportunity.

If you don't know, you need to watch this on Youtube, click the video below, then click the watch this video on Youtube.

Edit:
Clarified to "knows how to fly airplane well VMC" some of that IMC stuff seems to confound him, not talking about mins.

Watching his Dec 22 video now. Says he might have to disable his YouTube comments at the beginning of the new year since some are attacking him or being vile.

Youtuber commenters can be nasty.

There are benefits from being a celebrity...we all know him...all the controllers in his state seem to know him....he only needs to run for political office next...
watching Jerry do a swooping bank to final in Air Force One would be a good video. :)...ok, I'll take my meds now...Merry Christmas !

Jerry definitely needs to stay away from politics

I don't think the comments are anywhere near vile enough, considering A) the reality is most of us are really hoping to save this knuck****le's life, and B) he keeps doing the same shiznit over and over. think about it..........he's turned into the laughing stock of the internet not really because of the stuff he does, but because THE ENTIRE INTERNET is pointing out all the hazardous, stupid stuff he does yet he continues to do it. THIS is why he's a dangerous pilot, not because he's capable of banking 45* in the pattern.

Well, you were hungry. It was a fly-in meal after all.

One of my "less than perfect greaser landings" occurred with my wife in the plane as we went down to Georgia for a BBQ fly-in. Seems I could smell the flavors of the slowly simmering meat on the grill while I was on final approach. My mind was already in a lounge chair with a large plate of savory meat and a red solo cup filled to the brim with lightly sweetened southern tea. The landing wasn't horrible but I did have to do a good bit of foot work before I could get it to settle down.

I remarked to my wife that I was glad we were on the distant end of the runway and that no one seen that goofy landing. She replied, "I got it right here on my iPhone!" I never threaten my wife ... well not often anyway.

It's real hard to judge a landing unless you are pretty close and looking. Of course big bangs from dropping it in and tires locked up for 2,500 feet do get your attention.

I've never had that particular experience. Do share the details please!

I haven't watched it but I have heard that he explained in a later video that the sound wasn't a stall warning but the sound of the autopilot disconnect.

So it seems the sudden nose drop and recovery was not a stall, but just the normal control lapse which happens anytime a good pilot turns off his autopilot.

I've had my share of dropping a foot on landing, never damaged anything though. The 2,500 feet of locked wheels was a Bo at a local airport with about 100 people watching at an event. There was a presidential TFR that ended at the departure end of the RWY, which this guy busted by flying an upwind, then crosswind entry, on final he was high, fast and close. So he pointed the nose at the numbers and got it down to a "flare", forced it on about 500 feet past the numbers, porpoised twice, got it to stay down, then locked both wheels for the last 2,000 to 2,500 feet. Smoke show, but got it stopped by the end of the rwy. He stopped at the gas pumps, put some gas in, then taxied by us and parked it. Both mains were flatted through a couple cords. Nobody gave him any crap, I felt bad for him. On his approach I kept saying 'go around', 'go around', but he was committed.
