Well, with Covid we already had one slightly non-traditional Thanksgiving celebration on Saturday, with outdoor activities, mask-wearing and an indoor mask-free dinner with my family, my brother-in-law's family, and my in-laws all spaced at tables about 20 feet apart...

But now I'm thinking about doing something fun for actual Thanksgiving, but I'm not sure what. Between Covid and the holiday, I'm not sure what there will be to do! I'd happily hop in the plane with my family and go somewhere if there's somewhere worth going within maybe 300nm of Milwaukee.

Anyone have any bright ideas for something fun and memorable to do?

We usually have to hit two Thanksgiving meals (one at my parents, and the in-laws). My BIL/SIL and their 3 daughters just had a positive covid test this weekend, so the in-laws Thanksgiving is cancelled due to quarantine. So, it makes it easier on us this year not having to run all around with our kids in tow.

Same as always, going rogue and replacing turkey with ribeyes though.

Used to try and have traditional turkey and stuffing. It always seemed to me that the left-over turkey only ever got ate if I did something with it right away, like "turkey pop pies" or "Turkey Casserole". And, those were a lot of work, and not as well liked as other meals in my repretiore.

As the kids got older, we all agreed one Thanksgiving that turkey was not what we wanted. Been having prime rib since then. I either get a bone-in rib roast from the local butcher, or order a "prime-rib" from Kansas City Steaks.

Prime rib, mashed-taters and gravy, and fresh green beens has become our traditional Thanks Giving dinner. We have a friend that makes batches of sweet/spicey honey mustard. And, that goes really well along with creamed horseradish, and a good Cabernet.

My tradition was refusing to fly on the airlines to visit people for Thanksgiving. Looks like I was way ahead of the times.

You’re welcome here, we’re doing our Friendsgiving on Sunday :)

Thanksgiving day we’ll be finishing up this RV trip, driving home probably from Memphis, maybe Little Rock.

Go get BBQ in St Louis?
Hit one of the Lake Erie Islands (WX)?
Cleveland R&R Hall of Fame and West Side Market?

Because of the virus we are just having immediate family for Thanksgiving. (me, wife and mom)

Everyone raves about the turkey done in the pellet grill, but we decided that will be a bit too much this year.

Sirloin on the grill this year.

Spending the 96-hour Thanksgiving period working 4, 12-hour shifts at night. No holiday here. Going to sleep through as much of it as I can.

Land at KORD?

I'll probably be flying around the pattern at KMTW in the morning if you want to come and shoot past me like I'm standing still again :)

This year the above won’t be a problem.

When I was single I would volunteer to work holidays so the married folks could spend time with their family. Now that I am married, I miss those days.....

how ‘bout n’awlins?

That is definitely on my short list of places to go post-Covid. Probably going to head to the PNW first and then NOLA. But, with Covid (and a small child), probably not the place to go this time.

I'm really looking for something where there aren't going to be a ton of people. Pandemic, y'know! And with lots of things being closed and hotels being booked up due to a holiday weekend, I'm trying to make it something that's a relatively easy day trip in the Mooney.

When I was in the Navy, I was forced into doing that because I of being single. This time the scheduling worked out his way. Working Christmas to.

How about Two Harbors (KTWM). Should be a quick flight in the Mooney :)

The guy there said you can call ahead and reserve a car (they have 2) so you will have guaranteed transport and no rental car to mess with. Drive around the North Shore a bit and/or hike if no snow or mud. Head home same day even. Otherwise there are lots of "lodge" like places around Lutsen and the nearby area. Can always drive the car to Duluth and check out Canal Park. Not sure if Split Rock would be viewable.

Similar might be Houghton (KCMX) and take a car up to Copper Harbor.

My non-traditional Thanksgiving is flying out to the Outer Banks. My immediate family decided they wanted to stay home out there instead, and I think only a crazy person would pass up the opportunity to leave freezing temps and snow for a couple days on the beach (especially with a ticket credit from an earlier trip!).

You Delta guys need to fly more, though. The two landings so far this morning were a little rough! :D

ETA: Just thought I should say - the last landing of the day was absolutely awesome. I gotta say, that's quick customer service. ;)

My non traditional thanksgiving was going to be a furlough but I’m happy to announce that tour union and pilots came through for us and we have snoozed furloughs through January 1, 2022!

Ummmm... and customers. LOL

Don’t forget those. Even if they are just self-loading cargo. Hahaha.

We're doing it just the two of us. We had thought about inviting a couple that is equally reclusive as we are over, but they begged off. Margy is dead set for having a real Thanksgiving dinner: turkey (brining now), cranberry sauce (port wine with asian spices), stuffing, creamed onions, pumpkin pie.

Ours is traditional in the sense that we'll eat way too much and I'll likely be passed out in a food coma by the start of the Cowboys/Redskins game.

Non-traditional in the sense that it'll just be the three of us and our bulldog. Not quite the same without family. :(
