I called my local airport today to get on the list for a hangar. I was pleasantly surprised to find out that there are only four people ahead of me. Doesn't sound too bad on the surface but I'm keeping my fingers crossed. :fcross:

At our local airport here in vacationland Minnesota, hangars are rented on a month by month basis. In the fall, many vacancies appear as the snowbirds pack up their airplanes and fly south. Then there's a mad scramble for hangar space in the spring when they come back.

I thought for sure the waiting list was going to have at least 15-20 ahead of me. I might go up there a couple times a month and keep checking even though it might be annoying.

For me, sooner rather than later means 1 year instead of 5 years.

I just cleared last week in northeast FL - 3 years.

I don’t even ask where I am on the list. Too depressing.

If you go to sh*theel, USA, there is hangar space. But if you're anywhere near a medium or large city, not so much.
San Francisco and LA not large enough? There are hangars, but they are preciou$. I had to wait ~2 months in Socal but have taken occupancy with no wait 2x in Norcal with a third available as an option.

Nauga,
and some urban sprawl

Funny you mention Frisco. The one city in the US where you are more likely than not got get said "sh*t" on your heel...

After living in Socal small town living is nice. Maybe it's because I was never very social. I live in a city of about 10,000, the airport has a nice fbo with hangars at 150/ month. I can go to the DMV, county clerk and vin check in one 20 min visit.
The "internet of things" makes the drawbacks less noticeable.

I’ve checked 15 or more airports, all desirable areas, from TN, NC, GA and FL. The response was exactly the same “no, we have a waiting list, and we hope to build some more in a few years”.

Well, KBED has had a long long looooong waiting list for hangar space and has zero plans to build more hangars. They just keep jacking up the monthly rates (and they started to charge people to be on the waiting list)

I live in " sh*theel" USA ;}
Had my choice of old sliding door T hangers . $40 a month with electricity .
But the nicer/newer electric bifold door hangers have a waiting list .
