Not because I think MSFT 2020 is the cat's pajamas, but because I'm getting a file not verified error from FSX:SE after I just load FSX:SE. I removed and reinstalled FSX:SE, no joy. My Windows installation is up to date. I've filed a problem report with Steam, and if they punt, I'm uninstalling FSX:SE, Steam, and all of the third party software that I've been using with FSX:SE. And, I'm expecting them to punt.

I have the educational version of Prepar3D V.4, so I'll install it, instead, and all of the 3rd party software I have that is compatible with P3D. I'm sure there'll be a learning curve with P3D; Heck, I was still learning new features of FSX after years of using it.

I've spent a lot of time trying to resurrect FSX:SE, but just loading a flight plan corrupts a file. FSX:SE is pretty much dead to me, now. At least a lot of my 3rd party add-ons are compatible with P3D, and maybe the flight models at 64 bits will be a bit better than 32 bit.

I think the problem might be a corrupted FSX:SE entry in the registry. Any tips on how to find/fix it?
Thanks

I loved FSX.. it was my "go to" for a while. I understand X-Plane is "the one" but I had FSX built out exactly the way I wanted it.

Then, one day, some adds on stopped working right, and my "rig" (I actually hate that term but whatever) started to randomly freeze catastrophically here and there. I decided right then and there that if I had an hour or two to kill on FSX that time would be better spent outdoors, or working, and saving the flying for the real thing.

Not an indictment on people who love the sims.. but I gave up.

Good luck to you though, hopefully you can eventually resolve your issue. There are LOADS of forums out there, you may get lucky and find a cure.

type - FSX:SE clean registry - into google, returns

"Reboot!
Before you reinstall FSX – reboot your PC."

Make sure you do a RESTART here if on Win 8 or 10. Shutdown then power on does not do a complete system reload. (I think 8, not sure?)

It's very common for Uninstall to fail to completely remove software.

e.g. f***ing microsoft OFFICE, which has a magic real uninstaller which you NEED to download and use.

Anti virus software is often similar.

I would check the integrity of the OS.

chkdsk /f
sfc /scannow

If that reports unfixable errors
dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth
If that fixes stuff then re-run sfc as above.

Above all need to be run from an Administrator command window.

Also look at Control Panel/Device Manager for error flags (red/yellow triangles) on the dirvers. You may have to open each folder, I am not sure.

Good luck.

Wow, thank you. I'll have to give that a shot.

Later. I'd already found that page, but missed the FSX in AppDat/Local, and in Program Data. I'm about ready to reinstall FSX:SE, and give it a go. I might have a corrupted Flight Plan, and might have too many saved flights, too. Is there a limit to the number of saved flights you can have?
Thanks

Thank you. I reinstalled Steam, and RFSX:SE. So far, no issues. Still need to do the next phase test - load a saved flight, then verify file integrity.

I tried reinstalling everything. Everything seemed fine with a minimal download, but when I was done adding all of my 3rd party content, the GPS on the Liberty XL was completely gone. I have uninstalled everything, just need to remove all the files scattered around my computer.

I'm keeping everything backed up, though, to try again, if I want, the next time I have to build up my computer from scratch.

I'm moving now to Prepar3D V4. Most of my 3rd party add-ons are compatible with P3D V4.

An update. My 2 TB 7200 RPM HDD with an 8 GB SSD Cache Seagate drive hiccupped when I was downloading some MegaSceneryEarth scenery files and corrupted 8 files. I tried to fix the disk by doing a chkdsk /f. (No one held a gun to my head to force me to do that. In fact, it seemed like a good idea.) But, it is now FUBAR.

I replaced it with another Seagate 2 TB 7200 RPM HDD, w/o SSD cache. I have 48 GB of L1 Cache, and about 224 GB of L2 cache, so I don't need any cache on the HDD.

So, I get to start over, from scratch, with FSX:SE, and P3D. I might have to rebuy P3D because I wasn't able to uninstall it before the drive failed. Lockheed Martin addresses this issue in one of their FAQs. I'll read that if I can't reactivate it on my new drive.

I kicked myself when I first bought P3D V4 because V5 came out shortly after. However, V5 seems to be a work in progress, and V4 is stable and has all the features I care about.

I installed FSX:SE and the basic utilities. The Liberty-XL’s glass is back. I loaded a flight I’d saved when I was having problems and the no Glass problem was there. The previous flight was fine. I deleted the last flight and started over. If I’d wanted to spend the time, I might have been able to compare the flights and find the root cause.
