Looking at making a trip up to Fond Du Lac, WI. Looks like my choices for nearby airline destinations are Appleton or Milwaukee. Never flown into either, but my gut tells me Appleton will be less hassle. Any tips on which one to fly in to?

I presume you are self loading cargo.

Milwaukee is not difficult to get in or out of and probably has more flights. Yes, Appleton is a smaller airport, but probably less convenient because of the flight.

Milwaukee is as easy an airport to get in and out of as any. I would leave work at 5, get to the airport at 5:45 and make a 6:05 departure with time to spare.

Yeah, potentially making a trip up to look at a vehicle and drive back. From TUL, it's going to be a layover somewhere no matter the airline, so flight time won't matter too much, although I'm sure there are more potential flights into Milwaukee than Appleton. Drive time to Fond Du Lac seems to be roughly the same either way.

If money is no object, Appleton and rent a car. Be warned, flying into Appleton is much more expensive! Fond Du Lac is about 30 min south of Appleton, if driving from MKE.

More direct flights to Milwaukee than to Appleton. I usually travel to Oshkosh four times a year, and it takes me about 70 minutes to drive from MKE to Fond Du Lac. So the drive is 40 minutes longer, but total travel time might be longer depending on your airline routing.

You can do the planes, trains, & automobiles thing. Once at ORD, Coach USA bus to MKE then rental car, or hitch-hike. MKE to FLD, 1.5 hours or so, Lyft??

Actually, the price is almost absurdly low for either destination. I believe it's $170 or less to get to Appleton, and Milwaukee is around $150. In any case ive got more than enough flight miles on UAL, SWA, or DAL to fly to either location free of charge. Ticket prices are just insanely low at the moment, but also remember it's a one- way ticket so that lowers the burden a bit.

Lol, I'm going to have a 12hr drive back home if I buy the vehicle, so I'd rather spend as little time in transit as possible. I figure I'll rent a car in Milwaukee or Appleton and drop it off in Fond Du Lac. I could check Uber/Lyft to see if the cost would be reasonable versus the one- way rental.

Seems like most of the options go through Chicago, Dallas, or Cleveland. I'd prefer Chicago for the most direct route, but it's roughly 5-5.5 hours of travel time end-to-end with the most efficient schedule. Most of my past runs to Wisconsin were via MSP, so I'm not as familiar with Milwaukee and surrounding areas.

Not much goes into Appleton. Milwuakee and Green Bay are both about an hour away from Fond du Lac. Even driving up from O'Hare isn't bad.

My wife and I have driven that route. Pick your time of day to avoid the worst of rush hour traffic, and this option is easy to do.

Let’s not talk about the tornado warning and green sky enroute... because it missed us!

Seller and I have reached a tentative deal. He offered to pick me up in Appleton, but we'll have to see if that's still the best option.

So, it looks like I'll fly into Appleton (ATW) on the 25th since the vehicle owner is within 20 minutes or so and offered to pick me up at the airport. Hopefully there's no delay on getting in at 3pm and I'll have the deal sealed up by 6pm so I can get on the road. I believe it's a 12-hr haul back to OK, so we'll see how much energy I have and weather I want to drive it in one shot. If I'm too tired, I can just find a Hilton somewhere (maybe around STL) and finish the second half of the trip after some rest. Anything I should stop and see while I'm in the area of Oshkosh or FDL?

Is the EAA museum open yet?

They re-opened on Aug 3, per the FB page. I figured it might be worth a view, but I doubt I'd be able to squeeze it in since they close at 5p and I doubt I'd be able to get there much earlier.
