As in title, I'm looking to buy an RV-9a. Prefer autopilot, sliding canopy, 160 HP O-320 (or IO-320). VFR panel. Located in midwest. Cash.

Thanks for your help.

Mine's not for sale ('cuz it's AWESOME).
But I'm in the Midwest, too.
I'm happy to answer any questions or go for a flight if we happen to be in the same area.
Good luck in your search.
This is my second time owning (first RV), and after years of searching, I found my forever plane.

I appreciate the encouragement. I have a line on an otherwise very nice 10 year-old RV9a. Full Dynon IFR panel, but those avionics are 10 years old. Wrestling with that ATM.

I gave a flight review in one of those last summer. Seems like you need to be about 5'6" for your knees to not hit the panel. Of course I suppose that depends on the builder and what he did panel wise.

In a -9A?
I'm 6'1", and I have a TON of room under the panel.
No issue with knees at all.
The only space issue for me is the rudder pedals, but those are adjustable, and I moved them back.
I have really long legs, and I fit well.
On long XC, I will put my legs past the pedals onto the firewall sometimes to stretch.

Works for me. I have short legs.

I was wondering about that...I'll probably have to shorten them up if and when I find the right RV9a. How are the rudder pedals adjustable? Is it changing the holes that the mounting blocks are bolted in? If so, do I need to change the cabling length? Or is it something that can be done on-the-fly without a wrench?

You can't change it on the fly.
It's a set it up once for your legs, and leave it.

Yeah, that's what I thought. IIUC, when building you have to pick one of three holes for the rudder pedal mounting blocks and size the cables accordingly. I just agreed to purchase that RV9a last night, contingent on acceptability once my mechanic and I actually get to see it. I'm hoping that the cockpit is as small as someone said above. I have read the general opinion that the pedals can be moved, but it would require some re-rigging. Any particular person I'd call or email at Vans factory to get that information?
