What’s your source for Piper parts?

Aviall seems to hold the market on Piper specific parts. Any other good sources?
 
Depends what you need. If you want new, then Aviall (owned by Boeing) and even Piper for some things. Really depends what you're looking for.

In my experience, it can be very subjective to the specific model and the specific part. Other than Piper direct, never found one single source for all parts.

If your preference is only new Piper numbers then your options are basically limited to companies that buy out old stock like Preferred Airparts or KRN and the Piper dealer network. But if you're open to new 3rd party PMA part numbered parts then you have a much better selection from a variety of vendors which is dependent on what aircraft model your looking for. And for some parts, your only option for new may only be a 3rd party PMA part. So it depends. Do have an example of a part you're looking for and what model?
 
I like that stockMarket site! That’ll definitely come in handy one day. Cessna parts are much easier to find. I normally use Spruce or Air Power for everything. Desser is local. It’s convenient to walk in for pick up, have to pay taxes there though. Aviall is great, but they don’t sell to the public. We used them a lot when I was a shop mechanic. I haven’t taken the time to set up an account myself. It’s not very often that I need Aviall, normally have a shop friend order from their account if necessary. It’s interesting to see who everyone uses. The p/n that I was searching for is 99944-02 original number. Of course Aviall has it. Pretty sure it supersedes to 565-466

You may find that buying NOS parts from places that list on Controller or Stockmarket is significantly cheaper than buying via Aviall, etc.

Also, sometimes you can have good luck simply plugging the PN into Google.

(I have to parts hunt quite a lot for my Twin Bonanza)

I saw that. Aviall is $299 full list, there’s no mechanic discount on piper parts at Aviall. Sky Geek jacks their prices way up. They probably just order it from piper then tack on 20% for laughs. I don’t shop there for that reason.

Thanks Bradg, I just learned about StockMarket after posting this. They didn’t have this part but I’ll definitely give them a try soon.
 
Isn’t sky geek another e-commerce front end for Aircraft Spruce? I noticed their shipping locations are exactly the same as spruces.

They do which is why I always forget them. But that duct sure has "boneyard special" written on it. Perhaps a call to Wentworth or Dodson is in order just to see?

Since many of the parts in my Bellanca came originally from Piper, I had the same need to find a parts source. As it happened I made contact with a very helpful person at Mather Aviation in Van Nuys, CA. Jennifer Jacobson, parts manager. She took the time to look up parts for me, contacted me back and took care of some special order requirements too. Owner produced could be an option for some parts, yes?
 
I've had a Cherokee for 10 years now, and have done plenty of part-shopping. My strategy is to start by Googling "piper" and the part number. Often, in the results I'll find cross-reference part numbers and will search on those as well. There's a set of "usual suspects" who bubble to the top in those results, depending on the part you're looking for.

There are a handful of generalized parts sites that I've ended up at, that are sort of like giant database front-ends for searchers to find parts suppliers. Generally you get a hit that says "Schmo.com has 3 parts matching your search. Click here to request a quote." You have to enter your contact info and click the button, and wait for them to get back to you. It felt a bit sketchy the first time I tried, but I've had good luck more than once going that route, including parts for appliance repair too. https://www.partslogistics.com/ is the one I think I've used the most.
 
Thanks to everyone for the parts preference info. Kshaw, you’re guys at Skytec had a reply almost immediately. They found my part in Dallas at Aviall and had it drop shipped. Super fast, and excellent service, communication. They quoted the same as Aviall but after I committed to purchase they actually came back a few dollars less. Unfortunately, aviall made me pay taxes based on the state it was being shipped to. Unlike most, who tax on the billing address. Also had to pay shipping Charges, but that was very reasonable.
Keep in mind there’s a 20% restocking fee if you have to return, but I certainly don’t plain on that.
 
AirParts Of Lockhaven is a good company. Nice people and prices too.
