I really like the fact that it’s finally not about adding a 50% margin to the book distance, but rather how much runway YOU actually need.

I think they over-abbreviated the 30/70 rule, however...the Alaskan Off Airport Operations Guide specifies that it’s a 50-ft obstacle at the departure end of the runway that it addresses, not random “obstructions on takeoff”.

ever having seen that rule of thumb before, it’d be interesting to see the physics.
