Reminds me of how I got my partner in the Mooney. He flew an Arrow over to my home field to look at it, and since I had a meeting at the field he rented the Arrow from afterwards, we were both flying the same route. I let him take off first...

"Arrow 13Whiskey, traffic 6 o'clock and 3 miles is a Mooney with a 40 knot overtake." SOLD!!!

And here's what it looks like, though this is from a 172 so an even larger speed difference:

Lol. I was going into IFP Laughlin one time in a Mooney Ranger. There was a Beech Crutches who #1 on the descent. That’s until I traded altitude for airspeed. Enter the new sheriff lol. Meh, I’ll forget the time me and a Bo were departing Harris Ranch. When I rotated, they were loading. Ate me up as we climbed towards BFL. The food chain comes to mind. Leaving SBA for CMA with a Santa Ana on my back SBA approach clocked us at 185 kts. Love dem Mooney’s.

Didn't he do it wrong as per FAR 91.113? Overtaking should be done on the right...

Correct, it should be on the right. However, we were in radio contact (122.75) long before the overtake, and coordinated and agreed to the pass to the left side (mainly for photography reasons). In addition we each had both ADSB and visual locations on each other. As the pass method was coordinated and agreed to, I see no issue. If I were to pass another plane that I was not in contact with, I would certainly pass to the right and at a much greater distance.

Once u get a taste for speed it’s hard to go back. I can see the appeal of flying around @Shepherd style, but I got the need......
Yeah. My doggie flights tomorrow would take 22.5 hours to drive. Plane will do it in about 6. Don't ask about the fuel bill though...

I think I heard you on the radio. Sometime between 3pm and 4pm?
We went to SPI first, so we could fly the MOTIF 6 arrival. We would've been on with Peoria around 3-3:30.

Well I was flying from Arkansas to Chicago. So I was with St. Louis Approach, then Peoria Approach, then Chicago Center then Chicago Approach. I thought I heard an Archer going into Midway. I landed at 1C5 around 3:30.

I was surprised, we saw at least 3 other pa28s there. We got in just after 4:00.

Coming from st louis, you must've passed us? I assume you had a good 40 knots on us.

We were pretty busy at that point, as soon as we went to Chicago approach, they switched us from the motif to the endee arrival, which we weren't sure we could fly with our ancient king gps. Got a lot of practical experience today with programming that old piece of junk.

Looks like as you were climbing out of SPI I was 20 miles due west of SPI.

The camera is the Insta360 ONE R. It records 360° then I pan it around later in the app.

Very nice!

Thanks. I'm impressed.

:yeahthat: I've never had any great desire to record my flights (I don't even take many still photos with my phone when I'm flying), but what you were able to do with that camera set up has got me thinking...

I like those 360* cameras. I like being able to pan around and look at whatever I damn well please.
