The new Ford Bronco looks pretty bad azz to me, especially with the lifted suspension and big tires.

Trading in the Honda for it? ;)

I agree, Bill. I showed it to Laurie. That may be her next car. I wish they offered it with the Coyote.

$100 deposit and reasonably priced, I think this is another hit for Ford. I like the Ranger (wish the Ranger Raptor would be sold in the US), but the Bronco really holds a LOT of appeal.

It's not my jam, but I think Ford will sell a ton of these things. Love that they're offering a 7speed manual.

My wife's father retired from Ford, so we can buy on the Z plan. So, I figure, wait a year to let the hysteria die down (and work the bugs out), and order one on the Z plan. Biggest plus for me is that you can get it with a 7sp manual transmission. Had it been automatic only, no sale!

There are a lot of off road parks in my area, as well as vast networks of forest service roads in the GA/NC/TN/VA mountains, so plenty of places to use one of these as intended.

Even better they did the manual right. The gearing chart gets you almost the same 6th gear ratio as the 10th in the automatic at the top end for efficiency and the crawl gear is real low. James Earl Jones low.

Pricing isn't terrible either. This would be ideal for my beach and boat truck.

That's my thought as well. Manuals are generally poorly done, but Ford figured there would be a lot of people in this market who would want it so they did it right.

That top gear ratio is important. On the Ram, my G56's top gear is probably equivalent to 5th gear (or maybe 5.5th gear) on the automatics. It's not too annoying, but the engine could absolutely spin lower. It's enough that I'm considering installation of a GearVendors Overdrive. Not because I need it at all, but because I'd like it. Plus then I'd need to install a hi/lo switch of some sort, and the idea of making that look like a second shifter and end up with a twin-stick Ram is really appealing. :)

I'm trying to figure out a place in the fleet to put one of these. Replacing Laurie's GL550 is the closest option, but we do want the third row...

They actually got DOT/NHTSA to sign off on those headlights?

Yeah I'm interested in them as well... OTOH I have the Scout.

That bar going through the headlights looks ridiculous. Other than that it looks OK.

It's to pay homage to the original Bronco front end, which had the signal lights just inboard of the headlights and in line with the center grill bar. Done in a more modern stylistic way of course. I like it.

Manuals are almost always a "what do we have that fits" oversight nowadays since so few of them are sold stateside. Thats the case with my Subaru Impreza (not the WRX which has a 6th gear). It has a 5 speed that sits at 3k RPM or so at highway speeds. Crazy to me they couldn't figure out a 6th gear would do wonders there. I'm glad Ford planned this one well, however the manual is no longer an option if you go for the 2.7 V6.

This is sad because I think a lot of people will buy it just because it is a V6 instead of an I-4.

Personally, I'm tempted by the 2-door. I think as usual most people will overbuy and there will be deals to be found on the 2 door models. That and its just cool and not something you see a lot.

I would really like to see them put in a Coyote V8 with the manual. But yeah, it's good that they got this right.

Maybe once I get the shop built I'll look at putting in the bigger clutch my truck now needs and a GearVendors OD... if it will work with the 4x4.

Yup, give me the 2-door base model with the turbo-4 and 7sp manual, and add the Sasquatch option package. That adds the 35" tires, front/rear Spicer lockers, 4:70 ratio, suspension lift, and Bilstein offroad shocks. Done!

Sadly I think you have to go for the Black Diamond or Badlands model to get the overhead switches.

Everyone loves overhead switches.

That open view side door option will be known here forward as the Flasher’s Fenestration.

I gotta say. I love my scout, but this is damned cool. they exceeded my expectations with this, by a mile.

Yeah, they managed to get exactly what I was hoping for all around (other than wanting a V8, maybe next year). This is a home run.

This is, more or less, what LR should’ve done with the new Defender. Instead they designed an Honda Element lookalike.

My dream truck would have dual transmissions, maybe 24 or so forward gears that would get me comfortably all the way from highway speeds to tree climbing speed.

Too bad they don't offer an "engine delete" option.
I know of a couple of pickups my grandpa bought new, took out the gas engine and put in a diesel (back in the ‘70s). I never did find out what he did with the original engines. I’ll have to ask my dad if he knows.

A twin-stick 6x4 (24-speed) transmission in a semi is what I'd really like. For my bus project I'd probably settle for a 9 or 10-speed manual, paired to either a 3406B or a 12V71.

I'd imagine SVT will eventually get a hold of it to build a Raptor version with either the 3.3L twin turbo or the 5.0L Coyote.

Given that the F-150 Raptor now has the V6, my guess is that's the direction they'd go. Plus I think if you look at the Coyote vs. the twin turbo V6 I think the V6 has more power, which makes it hard to justify the Coyote other than "I coulda had a V8" (the 20-somethings on here probably won't remember that series of ads). Between that and Ford pushing the Ecoboost so hard since its introduction, it seems unlikely.

My fears were that either they'd make it another crossover yuppy-mobile and slap a bunch of Bronco badging on it OR that they'd build a cool offroader but make the base price something outrageous like $50k+

I am tempted to trade my Mustang in on one... mostly because due to muddy roads and winters I don't get to drive it a lot. OTOH I don't really need another 4x4.

FJ still wins because 3 windshield wipers is better than 2

Wonder what its offroad chops will be. Lots of plastic on the FJ but it's great offroad.. and 10 years on mine still feels new despite some abuse

Good to see a market exists for stuff like this

They actually got DOT/NHTSA to sign off on those headlights?

With these little arrays of LEDs, you can make headlights in any shape you want. You now see some cars where the low 'beams' are just a row of LEDs along the brow.

There is no "or." You mean a 3406B.

Subaru needs to bring back an electric AWD Brat. ;)

Up to this point, I have never bought or considered buying a new car. If Subaru released a good, AWD, electric Brat, I likely wouldn't take the time to consider buying it before I signed the papers.

A few years ago I priced buying an old Brat for that exact project. But every one that was for sale was rusted out and incredibly expensive (for a 30-40 year old truck).
