How y'all keeping in shape?

I have heard of this Gym guy. Never met him.

You might have met the Sac Arrow and not knowed it. He's hung out in Copperas Cove quite a bit for a couple of years.

Hmmmmm... Interesting. Is this classified information? I don't know of any reason to "hang out" here, unless it involves national security or a secret meetup with persons unknown... ;)

I think there was a strip club or GI bar there at the time.

Ignoring the treadmill, exercise bike, tramp, and inversion table down the basement. Takes a lot of work! :)

Jim
I donated the treadmill, still have the bike. The treadmill was much better for hanging laundry but took up too much space. The dog is much happier, he has more room to run around in the basement.

Ben & Jerry's Chocolate Fudge Brownie ice cream.

12 ounce curls. The more I watch the news, the more in shape I get!

Ditto. St Arnold’s and Karbach. My 2 favorite local breweries.

I brought an exercise bike all the way from Colorado; paid by the pound to include it in my moving. I haven't gotten on it once. It sits in my extra bedroom. I used it quite a bit in Colorado, but there were many days when walking wasn't too optimal. Not the case here. I need to donate it, although my cousin occasionally makes noise like she wants it for her husband.

If I were to get an exercise bike, I'd probably go for a commercial grade spin bike like a Star Trac or a Schwinn. I like Star Tracs the best but damn, those things are going for $700 used. The timing is just bad. I didn't ride today just because it was colder and windier than I want to deal with, but it -should- warm up fairly soon. I hope. As of yesterday, I'm still wearing my winter cycling gear. Another option would be to get training adapter for my road bike. That would probably make more sense.

I spent a whole nasty New Jersey winter riding one of these:

The Curt Kinetic Road Machine is a fluid drive trainer and adjusts the effort level by the gear you select.

The longer this goes, the more closely I will resemble an ideal shape: Spherical.

Downloaded this app yesterday based on reading reviews, etc. Up until the gym closed, I had been doing free weights 5 days a week, and thought I was in decent shape. Think again! Workout #1 of the 10 week beginner bodyweight training course kicked my arse. Looking forward to getting run over by that truck again tonight...

OK, day three, and quads, hammies, glutes, and brachialis are screaming...

I am surprisingly eating less for some reason. I have actually lost some weight during this virus.

I've been reading there's a correlation between Covid-19 complications and obesity. It's a touchy subject. Maybe if the correlation is strong and well publicized, Americans will lose weight and shape up.

And stop smoking/vaping as well.

I have too - about 7 pounds so far. I think some of it has been the lack of lifting at the gym, but also I'm eating at home quite a bit more. My wife's cooking tends to be a lot more healthy than the stuff I eat when going out. Beer consumption is also way down since the bars are closed. ;)

Probably some merit to this as restaurant food is loaded with fat, salt, and sugar, all the stuff that tastes good!

Haven’t been to the gym since my last layover. Maybe it’s time to invest in planet fitness but I think I’ll only go there if it’s free pizza or bagel day haha.

I'd say, anecdotal evidence I've seen first hand would suggest (to me anyway) that obesity, smoking and drug/alcohol abuse are directly or indirectly responsible for almost all in-hospital complications.

It may be all fun and games when you're younger. But, once it takes it toll, its an ugly way to live while you wait to die prematurely.

I lost about 10 pounds in the last month. In addition to walking several miles every day, I figured no longer having the stress of a long-hated job and associated commute to and from it were mostly responsible.

Ironically, these are the times when you WANT to commute to work.

My main exercise is cycling. It is the most enjoyable form of exercise I've run across. I created a Pilots of America cycling club on Strava quite a while back. We currently have 33 members. If you cycle, look up the club on Strava and come join the group.

Back in the seventies when I was a fairly young man I happened to pick up a used book, which had a Royal Canadian Air Force exercise program designed as a daily exercise regimen (for pilots!) that took only eleven minutes and can be done anywhere. it keeps it there at eleven minutes, but the exercises go from easy, when you are used to it you move up in reps, When you get to the point where you max out in the chart with reps, you move up to a harder exercise and reps go back down.

anyway, later in life I tried to find it again, never could and then it did show up on the internet.
The beauty of it is it requires NO equipment, can be done in any place you have room enough to lay on the ground, is well rounded, and gives the option of running in place, or walking or running outside.

Even I, allergic to just exercise (I like doing physical things, just not training things) can’t talk myself into skipping the daily thing because “I don’t have the time” it’s max 11 minutes! And of course you can do more, it’s the minimum.

anyway, here it is if anyone is interested. Mainly it consists of stretching warm up, sit-ups, push ups, lying on stomach and raising head and legs, and arms, running in place counting with jumping jacks each 75 double steps..you count each time one foot hits the ground.

For me this is perfect, as a daily exercise.

When it is above 50 degrees and not raining, I've been hiking in the mountains. 2000 feet up, a couple beers, 2000 feet down.

I'm cycling a lot too. I retired about a year ago and between that and COVID, I've gone from 180 ish to 155 lbs. I think the last 5 came from not eating out. I traveled for my job and was on the road 4 days/week. A lot of restaurant food. Home cooking only now and take-out once a week.

The POA/Strava group can be the motivation to get out and do a ride when you're on the fence. There are a couple real beasts that put down impressive weeks, but what's cool to see is that there are about 10 - 15 folks that do something every week.

Gyms reopened here about 3 weeks ago. Starting to feel back in the groove and working to get back to where I was pre-shutdown.

I'll do weight training as I have some free weights at home, and I'll split it up between upper body and lower body. Basically all upper body and then leg day. I used to do sections, but eh, I like to do near full body every other day.

Cardio has been fun at this point. I've been doing quite a bit of VR fitness. I'll play this game called boxvr for around 40 minutes and then I'll go into the other game called thrill of the fight and try to knockout my opponent and it's pretty difficult even on normal and I'll go all out. Before all of this I'll play this game called beat saber for a warm-up.

Our gym reopens tomorrow. Masks required in common areas, but not workout areas. No locker rooms or showers, and limit your stay to one hour. Social distancing rules are in effect.

I’m a swimmer and the lap pool won’t open for at least another week. I don’t see how lap swimming, even if you share a lane, breaks any kind of social distancing, especially considering we are working out inside a chlorine environment. But the county says “pools closed” and they didn’t differentiate between overcrowded public pools at city parks and lap pools with 6 or fewer swimmers.

24 Hour plans on doing something similar, with a limited capacity appointment basis using an app. They can go **** themselves if they think I'm wearing a mask, but 120 people vying for 20 slots in the morning before work isn't going to work out for... 100 people, and statistics say I'm going to generally be one of those anyway. A 1 hour limitation renders it practically useless, as my cardio session alone is 1 hour. They are going to go out of business if they stay on that model for very long, as a person would have to be crazy to purchase a new membership, or even continue an old one, under those limitations when competing gyms are going to be closer to business as usual.

On week nine of YAYOG. Then I’ll move on to the intermediate course
