thanks for your interest :) just wanted to share the pics. I’m a new member so I can’t share links to my site.

You can search up aviator systems Stratux HUD on google.

or aviatorsys . com

ok so as far as function it connect to a Stratux device to pull GPS and AHRS information.

you can see traffic info with augmented reality real time!

Out of spirit of the community I must share that this can be done as a DIY project, I just offer a buyable solution.

What can you tell us about the projector and combiner?

ETA: Looks like Hudly.

Nauga,
who wants an E-bracket

A lot less obtrusive than others I’ve seen. I like that.

Yup you got it! based off the Hudly Platform, I purchase in bulk from a supplier overseas.

15 different stops of brightness, the screenshots do NOT do it justice.
Originally purposed for cars however repurposed for aircraft. Why is this good? because its already made to endure the surface temperatures of a dashboard.

It can withstand the heat of the sun for prolonged periods of time.

Power is through a USB to DC barrel so you can power it from ships power, however, I provide a battery pack as well!

How customizable is the display?
So Glad you asked,

Below Ill have some screenshots of the other views, so that's as far as the customizability.
If you have any suggestions for future customizations let me know! Ill relay it to John.

7 Default views:
  • AHRS + ADS-B
  • Traffic
  • Traffic List
  • Universal Time
  • Diagnostics
  • (Blank) Meaning Nothing on the display
  • AHRS Only

Is it the stock Hudly focal point or are you able to extend it?

Nauga,

Was trying to look into it, but your site’s internal link doesn’t currently work...

Anyone tried using the casting feature on a Hudly with ForeFlight? Can’t think of a reason it wouldn’t work

I have a Hudly as pictured in my 6A. I do like it, but my only beef is the tint of the screen is too dark. B9D421D7-587D-45EB-B7C4-ACA65EF5C586.jpeg

Thanks for posting. Can you tell if the screen is partially silvered or any other special treatment, and it it replaceable?

Nauga,
glassy-eyed

Not sure if it’s partially silvered. That’s above my pay scale. I don’t think it’s replaceable without major surgery. I’ll take a look next time I’m at the hangar and report back. I got the unit very early in it’s production and I remember them making a big deal about the screen.

It’s just too dark. I find myself folding it back down on approach, which is disappointing as that is when I really wanted to use it. Otherwise, it acts as a cheap second screen, as it remains displayed as in the pic when I switch to different screens on the EFIS, like engine, map, etc.

Judging by your pic I agree, which is why I was asking about silvering and replaceability :)

Yeah, that part is really unfortunate. Oh well, the search continues.

Nauga,
Semper HUDless

After further review, I flew today so I checked over the Hudly a bit more. My untrained eye sees what appears to be a silver coating on the screen. Don’t hold me to that, but it definitely has a silverfish hue, if that means anything.

it looks like there are a couple set screws on each side of the screen that attaches it to the pivots that allow adjusting the angle that the screen sits up, so I would assume you could change it out.

hope that helps.

I'd be interested if it worked with something like Foreflight. Does anyone know if it links to it?

hope that helps.
It definitely does, thanks. Given the tint and what by most reports is a close-in focus I'm going to hold off and hope for improvements.

Nauga,
accessorizing

One thing to consider. Before they came out with this one piece unit, Hudly had (has?) a two piece model consisting of a projector and a separate, concave, clearer (much) screen. Might be worth looking into. I liked the one piece design for ease of install.

You are correct regarding the close-in focus. Not a true HUD.

Thanks again. I saw the two-piece a while ago during another bout of searching. I liked the idea but it's not practical in an RV-4. The one-piece would be tight too but I could find a way if it was worthwhile.

I guess it is a heads-up display in the literal sense ( ) but not so much an eyes-out display. At least it's got some interest, hopefully there's other work going on that I can leverage. I don't need the graphical side as much as I need the projector/combiner.

Nauga,
climbing the pitch ladder

Thank you both for the feedback! Im going to work on the glass to see if I can change it to something more transparent/"Silvering"!

Kind Regards,
Michael C
