IF domestic travel is restricted...

They don't have enough F16s to shoot us all down. Just sayin' :p

Where ya gonna go? LOL.

Go hide in the backwoods after flying to your secret airstrip... all summer, you’ll just catch it next fall when everyone else is already immune.

Or more likely it’ll mutate and we’ll all be doing this again. :)

Pretty sure national assets will not be tasked to find me and vector the Vipers, Victor.

That's my plan, when we run out of bourbon locally, anyway.

Well, the governor of Colorado ordered all Co ski areas to close for at least a week last night.

And many California resorts including Mammoth closed today.

My 91 yr old mother is in assisted living and it's locked down. No visitors in or out, no community dining. They will reassess in 2 weeks.

In 2009 there was an estimated 284,000 worldwide deaths from H1N1. Right now we are at 6000 deaths worldwide with Corona.

This year we have had an estimated 52,000 deaths in the USA due to regular flu. Yes, most cases are elderly with maybe an issue or two, pushed over the edge by flu.

I had a bug a month ago, took a good 3 weeks to recover, no idea what it was. Lots of ‘hive minded’ behavior going on. If there’s no T.P. on the shelf get Kleenex.

This was from a recent news story. I believe these numbers are for the US alone.

"The CDC reportedly predicted 160 million to 214 million infections, 2.4 million to 21 million hospitalizations and 200,000 to 1.7 million deaths in the country."

It isn't about what the virus has done, but what they expect it will do. That is why the governments around the world are taking unprecedented actions.

This was 1 of 4 models, this one based on the absolute worst case scenario, of which a premise was that nothing would be done to combat the spread. Nothing, no hand washing campaigns, no mass shutdowns of large crowds, etc. CDC came out with a model during the Ebola outbreak, predicted 1 million would die, 2 americans died.

Never gonna happen. No more than 100,000 fatalities. Under 20k more likely. Fear monger.

Of course that is worse case. The truth will hopefully be something less than that. However I would be hesitant to dismiss this virus just because of what other ones have done. There are many dangerous characteristics to this virus making it much easier to spread and harder to contain. Characteristics that previous viruses didn't have. The 14 day incubation period during which carriers still seem to be contagious to others. It appears to survive outside of a host for many days. The permanent lung damage caused to some that survive. Combined with what seems to be little natural immunity or current treatment, it is developing into a dangerous situation.

There was a news video I saw last night from the hospital where they are autopsying the dead to learn more. The doctors have said they have never seen a virus cause the type of lung damage they are finding. The doctors doing the work are even concerned for their own safety, because they still don't 100% understand the transmission process.

Out of curiosity, do you have evidence to back that up or is that your gut? What background do you have to make such assumptions?
Gut. China, with all of its issues, only had about 80k fatalities. If even double that number, statistically a non-event. Every day on average about 3800 people die in the United States from various causes. I am just not buying into the fear and mania promulgated by the media. And I’m disappointed and ashamed of my fellow citizens who perpetuate it. I am disappointed and ashamed of my fellow citizen buying up boxes of toilet paper and other items based on fear. I have had several first hand accounts from people that contradict the media scary reporting. The media is exaggerating and outright lying to sell product.

Buzz on 'Landline' Facebook group that there's going to be a ground stop announced in the next 24 hours......

It's on the internet so it has to be true.

Whatever reality is doesn’t matter because we are making reality. Even if the virus isn’t as bad as it’s being made out to be, the economic impact IS real. And the repercussions of that are real (bankruptcy, delayed retirements, financial induced health impacts). It’s getting nutty out there...

I can't see them grounding every flight, including GA. That doesn't make sense. Perhaps a suspension of airline flights, but nothing more than that.

At least that is my hope. I'm in Mexico on a trip, going home Saturday.

I take the numbers out of China with a grain of salt for two reasons. One China has been trying to cover this up from the get go. I wouldn't be surprised to find out those numbers are seriously underreported. Secondly the outbreak slowed dramatically when China, a communist country, locked their citizens in their apartment complexes and banned anyone from going outside. That will obviously stop the spread.

In the US, it will be difficult if not nearly impossible to shut down 100%. People will outright refuse to self quarantine, as some already have.

That being said, the TP hoarding is ridiculous. The people buying up supplies and reselling at ridiculous prices should be prosecuted. I don't buy into the hype, but believe in being prepared. The virus gives me a little concern, for those who have other medical issues that will make it worse, and including myself. I had a similar viral pneumonia episode about 10 years ago. It left me quarantined in a hospital for over a week, and honestly wished I was dying. I don't want to relive that experience, and am at least curious if that makes me any more susceptible to this bug.

I don't know just yet. Its not unprecedented, they did just that on 9/11. I would say if they were going to shut down all aircraft, it would probably be part of a bigger plan of lockdown and curfew for the nation as a whole. I do foresee the airlines being parked soon, even without government intervention. Passenger traffic is a fraction of what it was, as people cancel their travel plans.

The post 9/11 grounding was because of a terrorist threat from airplanes being used as weapons. That is not the issue now. A airplane being flown privately with a family in the back that all live under the same roof does not pose a threat to the general public. It's no different than if they were all in a car together.

As I said, a total airspace shutdown would probably only be a part of a greater plan for curfews or lockdowns for the country. I don't see it as a stand alone plan. A shutdown of scheduled passenger service I'm hearing is now probable, although it is practically getting to that on its own as passengers cancel trips, and airliners start cancelling empty flights.

It would be “movement” restrictions. I was on a conf call with my colleagues in NJ on a work matter and they mentioned they now have curfews in place for everyone (8p-5a if I remember right).

It's going to spread no matter what movement restrictions are put into place.
Last night it was in 49 states. So even if they restricted movement by county to keep the 'free' counties clean, how long would that help (none).
You definitely need to read up on the math of disease spread. It doesn't require 100% compliance to make the virus die out.

Watching President live now. Not proposing any domestic travel bans or quarantines at this time.

If they shut down airline travel, I'm heading over to LAX to run a few trips around the pattern.

Finally.

A voice of reason in all the clutter being spouted here. You are not alone.
Keyword...... "Media"

Free speech is an absolutely essential component of a free society, but that free speech must be reasonable, reliable, truthful, accurate, honest, and responsible. In this most recent situation, our media deserves a failing mark on several points.

Many of us were wondering "what's next" in this never ending chain of sensational media circus events. Now we know.
Wake up sheeple.
