I’m planning to go from riverside to Henderson in the summer (June). How are the winds usually. Do they gust a lot. I’m only staying for one night and leaving next day. But on the day I arrive at KHND it will most like be in the evening either 2:30 or 3. Anyone have any tips.

It is usually not too bad. Watch for high temps and climb.

Ditto on temps. The desert east of there gets toasty and it’s not very cool aloft unless you go really high.

Cold water from your cooler of drinks on a cloth around your neck helps.

July is worse. Ask me how I know. :)

In the mountains where I live, we don't fly much during the mid afternoon, it gets too damn rough. We fly mornings here, and late afternoons. Some days its nice all day, but not common in the summer we get thunderstorms almost everyday.
I also don't like flying much when its that hot, June near Vegas will be very hot. I'd leave as early as possible to avoid the heat and the chop.

"evening 2:30 or 3" - AM? or afternoon?

The chop isn't TERRIBLE on that route, because while it is hot, it usually isn't windy that time of year.

For long term wind planning I go to Windalert.com. It will provide historic data over the years, and it will show you the average wind speed and direction for every month. I use this site when I want to determine what month to fly to a particular wind-prone destination.

Here is the link for HND (aka, Sky Harbor, not to be confused with PHX).
