I mounted a RAM ball on an aluminum instrument blank and installed it in an unused instrument hole on my panel. Works great to have a permanent mount, and I can remove it with four screws and no damage done to the panel. Not sure if your panel will allow this, but if it would it's an easy option worth considering.
