2/22/2020 Southeast Peeps, come say goodbye (or hello) to The Grove

I'm out. I'm on 9 year old duty on Saturday and he's not up for 3 hours in the airplane plus hanging out with a bunch of reprobates. ;-)

@eman1200 can we count on you to be lying on the ground in a red suit . . . like the diagram you drew?

Man when I was 9 I would have killed for an opportunity like that.

Looks like I have an open left seat in my 182. Anyone in north Atlanta who can make it to the Alpharetta-Cumming area by 10, you're welcome to join me.
First person who emails me gets it.

Just shot you an email with a couple of questions if you haven't been emailed yet which would render them moot if you have.

I have about a 5 hour flight from SVH...via CHA. hope to be there by 1 at the latest. I plan to land on 17...that was my first solo once upon a time...kind of a sentimental guy I guess...

You’re coming through CHA?

I'm just about to head out. See you guys in a few hours.

Somehow I made it out of there without drama even with the whole group hoping I'd do something that would make their videos go viral.

It was a great flight both ways. Got my first clearance into a Bravo. Charlotte is much nicer than Tampa. I don't think I'll ever get into the Bravo in Tampa.

And that was a very interesting airport. Definitely worth the trip for a last in a lifetime experience.

Several of the folks there are not on POA.
That's me (kc4wsd) on the back row, second from the left. My son, Austin, is third from left. He's the licensed pilot. Thanks to everyone at 8A6 today for the hospitality, especially @eman1200 for the food and drinks.

just got back home. GREAT day. I feel like I'm still floating down the runway for one of my worst landings ever. I floated so long I almost landed at Concord 10 miles north of 8A6. anyways, here's to a great day, lemme settle in then I'll point out who's all in the great pic.

Great meeting everyone there today. Thanks, eman, for organizing!

Thanks, @eman1200 for putting this together and double thanks for the slices and drinks! Yeah, that runway and airport is very interesting. The tree! No, THE TREE!!! Anyone get a picture of that tree across the street from the runway? It doesn’t look so big on the ground, but it sure filled the windshield on short final!

And speaking of landing, I ballooned on the landing, and I think everyone except for @TRocket ballooned on the landing. Oh, and then after landing, I applied moderate brakes, and the rear end wanted to pass the front end! Hmm, ok, work the rudder pedals.

Later when walking the runway a little I understood, the pavement is basically coming apart, and the whole top surface of the runway is covered with marble sized rocks and pebbles. Fun!

Glad I got to visit this unique place before its gone and it sure was nice to see old friends and meet new ones. @Ryanb was a great co-pilot as always, thanks for riding along, man.

Edit: and that LLWS Emann talked about? Oh yeah, its there. Knocked around in the pattern and on short final. Unique place.

Pics to follow!

PoA_8A6_2_22_2020.jpg

ok here it goes:

front row starting with green jacket on the left, that's Gary. he's been based out of 8A6 for a long time, recently sold this pristine cherokee then hung it up. we go flying now and then, usually to one of the SCBC meet ups. good to keep him flying. then there's Zack who is also based at the grove and flies a mooney so he's gotta be a good guy. middle is @Salty . he looks mad cause he flew up from florida and couldn't have any pizza. the black dude is Chris, he's a local guy and he doesn't know he's black so if you meet him please don't let the cat out of the bag. it'll be our little secret. then the world famous @write-stuff Russ from Gold Seal/PoA.

middle row left is, dang it, the one name I can't remember, came up with Russ, sorry dude. tall dude #1 is PoA's own @Bill Jennings . no idea what his real name is. tall dude #2 is @snglecoil Chris, who apparently is based out of my home field as well. then there's eman with either the "man I suck at landing" grin or the "I was promised Ho's at this party. WHERE are the Ho's?!?" look on his face.

back row left is David, he's active on mooneyspace and has been based at the grove for longer than just about anyone there. also a pretty smart fella since he flies a mooney. then there's @kc4wsd David and his son Austin. lookin like a true ladies man is @Ryanb , followed by either a serial killer OR @SkyDog58 (David). last dude in the back row is Trevor, another locally based dude who ended up buying the plane me and several of us trained in. @TRocket showed up a bit late for the photo and for pizza, but better late than nevah.

it's bugging me that I'm one name short. anyways, thanks to everyone for coming out, let's do it again soon!

David figured out that I was the one that bought an exhaust from him last month, AFTER we got back home. Small world. I coulda saved half my fuel bill in shipping if only I'd known.
