A Virginia man piloted at least one plane without a license in 2018, in a dangerous journey that ended with a "bounced" landing, federal authorities said.

Ryan Guy Parker "knowingly and willfully" flew above suburban Washington D.C., posing a "significant risk of injury and death" to himself and the public, according to an affidavit by U.S. Department of Transportation Special Agent Bret Stolle.

I don't know why this 2018 incident is being reported only just now.

"Parker is described in the affidavit as once operating an aircraft washing business at Shannon Airport known as Outlaw Aviation." Awesome!

What's awesome? Do you associate the fact that he could have killed himself or others with him being an Outlaw? Are you just giving him a pass entirely because he came up with an ironic name for being proficient with a towel and soap? Or maybe it's because he flew above our Nation's capital and knowingly risked the safety of others and you find that sort of thing entertaining in some way?

I just thought it was ironic

That bucket of bolts looks suspiciously like an ultralight... in which case he doesn't NEED an airman certificate... wonder what the rest of the story is.

Horribly researched news story, though just like most aviation stories.

If it's truly an ultralight, right, no certificate needed... but there are still Part 103 rules prohibiting flying over any congested area, endangering people or property on the ground, etc. But FAR violations aren't felonies, so it sounds like local authorities are trying to charge him, with what I don't know. "He few in 'patterns'"... like an airport traffic pattern?

Try a sense of humor out for awhile. If you like it, it’s yours...

From the story linked in post #6 above:

"Parker was charged following an investigation by the U.S. Department of Transportation's Office of the Inspector General."

It took them that long to conduct the investigation...

:)

Lighten up, Jackson!
I think you mean Francis.

I have nothing against @MacFlier and I'm sure he/she was not doing anything intentional to promote the guy, but it just hit a nerve. If it came off as some sort of personal attack in any way, my apologies.

My issue was with the statement somehow excusing his actions because "Outlaw" or glorifying them in some way. Someone has to pay for that plane to be fixed, that's not funny.

Again, just hit a nerve...

It's all fun and games until Ryan Guy Parker screws the pooch and spins it in onto someone's head...… (didn't read the article)

The report lists a Tomahawk, however. Unless there were two incidents.
Two separate incidents, Kenny. The Tomahawk escapade was on September 2, 2018, and the Teratorn Tierra II (a 2-place craft with an empty weight of 410 pounds which doesn't qualify as a part 103 ultralight) on September 27, 2018.
