Sometime in June I’m going to take an aircraft with family and friends to Henderson Executive for a two day trip from Los Angeles. Is there any way to tour around the city with the plane. Like a tour route. Or maybe to the Grand Canyon. I know there’s a lot of restrictions near the city. If anyone has done this, please let me know.
Thanks

I did a helicopter tour out there about 10 years ago. Into the Grand Canyon and along the strip. Was a lot of fun, and lot's of companies to choose from.

I mean if I have my own airplane is there a certain route to take?

There aren't any special VFR corridors in that area like around NYC. There is, however, a special Grand Canyon VFR chart that shows the altitudes and directions that are used for the sight seeing tours in and around the GC that is good to have on-hand to know what's going on. We flew over GC and Hoover Dam into Henderson in 2007 and actually landed at GC airport to get out of turbulence to let our stomach's settle a bit. I suggest early AM or late PM flights - even when we went in mid-March, we were getting rocked around pretty good at 11k ft.

Tell ATC you would like to do a strip tour. They may give you a vector, depending on the runway in use at LAS. I think it's far better if you fly to GC. If you have time, fly over Lake Powell. Just incredible.

Also, I’m a student pilot currently I have been the last three years (started at 14). Taking my check ride soon. I’m considering taking 3 people not including me, in a Cirrus SR20 with almost enough fuel to go there and back (like to be conservative). I know most people say not to do this as it is distracting and difficult. I’ve flown solo to KDAG and crossed mountains which is almost halfway to Las Vegas.
Some people on another forum suggested taking only two other people and more fuel for better performance.
What is your experience on this. I was thinking about making some solo trips to Henderson and back during the day once I get my private just to be familiar.

Almost enough fuel?

No. In flight fuel. With taxi, runup, and climb, and cruise, as well as Legal VFR day reserve, is 26 Gallons. So if I take 40. I’ll have enough to divert in case of weather or unforeseen circumstances.

No place. Mountain crossing. Why not take a CFI for a lesson and do the trip back and forth. That’s what I do. You’ll have new airspace that’s busy with a lot of radios. Take CFI for a trip you’ll learn a lot

Alright. I’ll probably do that on my cirrus Transition. I’ve flown solo to KDAG. I know which mountains you are talking about. I crossed it at 9500msl. Or 2000agl clearance from the 7500MSL mountains.

Definitely. But I don’t want to risk night touring simply for the fact I only have 4.5 night hours. Not nearly enough for real world application.
