Help me make sure I am reading this regulation correctly....

61.195(h) Qualifications of the flight instructor for training first-time flight instructor applicants.

(1) The ground training provided to an initial applicant for a flight instructor certificate must be given by an authorized instructor who—

(i) Holds a ground or flight instructor certificate with the appropriate rating, has held that certificate for at least 24 calendar months, and has given at least 40 hours of ground training; or

(ii) Holds a ground or flight instructor certificate with the appropriate rating, and has given at least 100 hours of ground training in an FAA-approved course.

The way I interpret this is (i) is referencing a Part 61 school and (ii) is a Part 141 school. Is that correct?

I’m looking at this because I made a good impression on the instructor of the CFI academy I recently attended and we are talking about me assisting him as a ground instructor. I currently have my AGI/IGI.

100hrs ground given part 141.

Got it. Thanks.

Fortunately they have a very active 141 op with ground schooling happening frequently. Hopefully I can rack up the 100 hrs in short order.

It doesn't take long if you are doing formal ground in a class environment.

Of course you can teach anyone anything you want, but it wouldn't be loggable by them and you certainly can't provide signoffs.

I agree. The “in an FAA approved course” language is used to denote part 141.
