I will be in San Diego for a few days and am looking to log time in something unique. Any recommendations on a place to log some dual or a cool destination to see with an instructor?

I dont plan to be there long enough for a checkout, but am happy to fly with a CFI learn something new, see a new place, or fly a unique plane.

Thanks!

Do you have DoD access? There is (used to be?) a flying club at the NAS that had a couple T-6s. Donno if they re still active or not...

I do not, but that would have been fun! Thanks anyway!

It’s a short hop to catalina and lots of hidden away shangrilas in the mountains southeast of LA.

For the most part you would probably have to be a member of Plus One Flyers in order to find and fly some unique stuff.

Plus One has a huge fleet and offers more than your run of the mill decrepit 172 and PA28 sh#tboxes.. although there are plenty of those too, but last I checked there was a Maule, C180 tailwheel, Great Lakes bi-plane, Aeronca Champ, and others..

The club has its pros and cons, but it's one of the better outfits IMHO..
