Any feedback on this airport? Is there more than 1 FBO (website only shows Legend)? Thinking about APA-PRC in a C-182 or C-35 probably March time frame with 2-3 night stopover.

Thanks for info,

Jon

I parked there (at Legend) for about 10 days last month, visiting physics colleagues at ERAU. Parking was $20/night, which makes it the most expensive parking I've had on my trip so far*. They'll waive some of the parking fees for buying fuel (there's a formula for it, like one night per 10 gallons purchased or something like that). But they were friendly, and plugged my plane in on a particularly chilly (subzero) morning when I called in advance.

The airport is very busy, it was also the longest I've had to wait in line for takeoff*, as eight Embry-Riddle trainers jostled for takeoffs amongst landings on two parallel runways. However, the amount of traffic seems to really ebb and flow, sometimes you just catch 'em at a busy time, sometimes you don't. There are actually two tower different tower frequencies, depending on which direction you're coming from.

It's in the middle of a really beautiful area. Took lovely day trips to Sedona for lunch. Also spent a night at the campground at Payson, which has a diner and some nice views as well.
Have fun!

* Haven't gotten to New York yet. :)

Hello Katherine and thank you! How is Anchorage? Passed through there several times decades ago when stationed at Adak.

You mentioned New York, are you on a grand tour of the lower 48? While visiting ERAU did you spend any time at their Observatory? They had a great program with a lot of activity in optical and radio observing. I lost contact with them because of health issues and computer failures. Gentleman who was running their program was super nice and great to work with. Very enthusiastic students too!

We are planning to visit friends at Prescott Valley in May assuming wife's knee surgery and recovery are free of complications. Also assuming my health issues resolve in time. Full two day drive but looks easy in C-182 or C-35 from our flying club.

Enjoy!

Call airport operations, I always rent a T-Hanger while there. My in-laws live there so we are flying there often. They just tore down a lot of the covered parking.

Because of Embry flight school they have been landing in direct crosswinds when runway 3/21 was available. If your not comfortable with it tell tower and they will route traffic. I learned this the hard way first time we flew in, they landed us runway 12 with a 17kt crosswind when we could have landed 3 with a direct headwind.

Thanks to ERAU, PRC is the fourth-busiest GA airport in the country.

Prescott is beautiful. Lots to do there, and in surrounding areas like Jerome, Cottonwood, Sedona and Oak Creek Canyon. Having the airplane lets you expand your day-trip range to Grand Canyon, Lake Powell, Monument Valley, and more. Go stand on the corner in Winslow, Arizona, then see Meteor Crater.

Enjoy your visit!

If we go to Winslow, should we look for the girl driving the flat bed Ford?

Thanks everyone!!

No need to look hard. Theres a monument right on the corner of the main drag through town, complete with flatbed Ford. I got a pic of me by it, was just there in October.
