Flew out of KVKX into KJQF(Concord) earlier today doing the NASCR4 arrival from LYH transition. I was flying 4000’ on V476 for lower headwinds and after LYH was told to climb to 6000’.. I requested remain at 4K but was told MVA wouldn’t allow it.

What am I missing?Any reason why?

Greensboro arrivals would be my guess without looking at a chart...

Debris on the racetrack.

Just kidding. I suspect it's some glitch in the radar coverage there in southern Virginia. I get jumped a few thousand over the MEA up on the airway slightly west of the route as well. Note that despite having MEAs on the chart, it does also mandate RADAR.

Good point on the RADAR.

Looking at the Terminal Area Chart around there, I think the MVA there being 6000 is just wrong. The controller may have confused you with a KCLT arrival for a ‘brain fart moment’ and was trying to contain you within Class B airspace. What kind of airplane were you flying? What happened next after he said that? You obviously got down eventually.

EDIT: looking again at the OP, this happened about 140 miles out from JQF. @EricVKX , who was the Controller? You were probably with Roanoke Approach when this happened. Greensboro was probably next. Did you ever get Washington or Atlanta Center?

Yeah. Radar coverage is not always as low as it seems it should be. But I’m not seeing that as being the issue here. The Arrival ends at NASCR with “expect RADAR vectors to final approach course.”

EDIT: see edit above

Radar shouldn't be an issue when I'm flying IFR with a cleared route on a victor airway, but it is with that facility.
