Very good monitor deal

What is the price for those of us who don't have a membership to see it?

Ha. I didn’t notice that they hid the price today.

And it was lower yesterday. A lot lower. $160.

Someone got fired at Costco. LOL.

And I went back and looked at my screenshot... it was $170. Anyway, was hard to beat, but is now about average. But those Dell monitors are pretty good. We have boatloads of them in smaller sizes and a few that big.

I see it as 199. how good of a deal is that? I'm wanting to give DW a better home office and she's squinting at a 15" monitor we got free right now. i'm worried this would be too big though

It’s decent.

Make sure the machine can drive Quad HD resolutions if it’s older.

The irony is, get these and everything is smaller so you crank up the zoom...

Or wear your computer glasses

Nice and crisp and tiny. LOL.

well, she works at a desk/table with this. so it would be 3' from her eyes. She does have a 2 year old Lenovo T460 so it's pretty powerful. I doubt if her firm sprung for the separate video card. My T460s drives two external monitors plus the integrated one perfectly.

i'm just worried 32" is too much for how close she sits. thoughts?

BTW, her eyes are aging a bit, so she is doing a lot more squinting and zooming on her integrated 14" screen

I don't think I'd worry about that, at least the way I use it. I always have several windows open that are each about a quarter of the screens size. I enlarge or shrink them as I need and as much as appropriate. You can always shrink a window, but you can't enlarge it any bigger than the screen is.

Meh...only 2560x1440, 60 hz. Nothing special, just..big. You can get TV's that are bigger than this, for cheaper.

Would love an example of a larger TV in that res or higher and larger for less than $170.

Never said these were special. Just well priced for what they are. For the distances people use monitors at, they’re more than adequate.

Faster refresh buys you nothing unless you’re twitch gaming and 4K at that size at two feet from your nose is useless overkill.

These are a good size for rotating vertical for coding and document work in a multi monitor setup.

Definitely want to see this link to this TV though. Have some digital signage applications for it if it’s that high res and cheap.

That monitor is worth more than my beater car. LOL. And needs a non-trivial graphics card to drive it too. Lol

Heh! Definitely too rich for my blood. I will say that I'm enjoying my LG 4K 27" display. My older Dell 1440p 24" sits vertically next to it, and there's a noticeable difference in the higher resolution of the LG - kind of like looking at what Apple calls Retina. That said, I'm getting to the age where any day now I'm expecting to have to crank up the zoom. Hasn't happened yet, but it's coming I'm sure!

I have three pair of glasses now. Started at 40 and third pair at 45. Lol.

Flying bifocals overcorrected top, panel distance bottom, computer glasses for that distance, and a single vision pair for lying on my side watching TV. Ha.

TV's don't come in 1440, best you can get is 1080 which has a negligible difference in look.

You can get a 40" lcd 1080p tv for $199, same price as the picture
https://www.amazon.com/Proscan-PLDE...se-bin:3578041011&rnid=1232878011&s=tv&sr=1-5

You can get a 4k tv for 20$ more.
https://www.amazon.com/TCL-43S403-R...se-bin:3578041011&rnid=1232878011&s=tv&sr=1-7

I don't think I'd spend the $170 for a monitor if I can spend $199 for an 8 inch larger tv at basically the same resolution. And, the 4k option is even more appealing.

you need millwright glasses with the "bifocal" on the bottom for reading and the top for inspection of things above you. the middle is "normal" corrective lens.

Nah, I’d only need those to peer over the top at the youngsters when they do dumb things. Like buy $4000 monitors. LOL.

Are they same people that want us to pay off their student loans?

Like I said, let me know when you find the thing you claimed existed at a lower price point. LOL.

That’s a refurb you had to resort to on the 4K TV. LOL.

Your statement was false.

well, since we're on the topic im looking for the best deal on a couple of 24" monitors. any suggestions??

You're original price point was $199. Someone said $170 and another person $160.

The 4k was to illustrate a point. And who cares if it's a refurb? That was never a requirement.

Here's one, 40":

Here's another one same size, almost 20$ cheaper:

You get the point..

Here I thought you were going to offer up something actually better and cheaper. (No, not really...) :)

Those are both awful choices for a monitor. Scraping the bottom of the clearance barrel at Worst Buy? LOL.

I get that the point was wrong...

I provided that. You never gave any other requirements. I gave you a 40" TV 1080p brand new for $169 which beats or meets the resolution requirements of your $170-$199 1440 monitor.
Never said what I provided was special either, just well priced for what they are.

Your examples don’t match the resolution. Your excuse that it’s because they’re TV’s doesn’t fly. QHD is QHD. 1080P isn’t QHD.

Try again.

Why get two when you can get one? This is about the best deal if considering future proofing for at least a few years. Pretty good mix of good attributes for middle of the road in my opinion.

Two QHD monitors in one package for $1200 when you can have two for $400 and all you lose is the unnecessary refresh rate only twitch gamers need... and you can orient the other ones horizontal or vertical if desired.

How does that make any sense at all unless you need the refresh rate for gaming?

Nice for an immersive first person shooter or maybe a flight sim if you have the PC horsepower to do that, but man that’s a chunk of cash for no good reason for most folks.

I mean other than if you just want it. We are all airplane buffs around here and mostly not for reasons other than “I want it” but still.

Aren’t most folks fixing the small monitor for the desktop PC thing these days by just using mobile devices like tablets anyway? I don’t find myself at the actual computer desk all that much at home unless I’m working from home or working on a coding/system setup/config sort of thing like my home automation sever.

Surfing and such is just the phone or a tablet these days. Sites that can’t do proper mobile browser support are just summarily dismissed for the most part at this point.

Give up @denverpilot
No matter what you like, someone is going to put it down and say they like something else better. If I could justify replacing my current monitor, I would be looking for a good deal like the one you posted, but my 4 yr old 24 inch Samsung from Office Depot is holding up just fine. Especially since I primarily use it to get away from IOS and use a real keyboard where I can touch type.

Totally understand your very valid points. One generation of my set up involved an old 1080 16:9er in the vertical and a new and vastly superior 4k as primary. I liked having the vertical one for cataloging files and clips, outputting pinstaface or instabook, and my reddit feed. But, two different resolutions and color bits and refresh rates...drove me and the computer batty. I had to keep the door shut to the office so as not to offend the feng shui of the house. Sheesh.

So then it is down to one 4k screen. But I miss the real estate I had, and don't like loosing resolution with a bigger scale. With a 5120x1440 wide screen, my want vs need ratio will re-balance. (Kinda like I need a $25k MT prop on my 45 year old, steam gauge Sierra) It's not 4k, but I don't use 4k - unless I'm watching something in real 4k.

I used to have 60Hz monitors back in the olden days. Once I went 120 on a big screen, I enjoyed the experience more. Rather noticeable to me in some regards. 3:2 pull down I think is the term. Also, I cannot tell the difference above 120Hz.

You are right, most people surf on their HHDs, and desktop computers seem most useful for YouToober and film creators and 3d thing makers. I'm neither. :) I do use my phone a lot for surfing. I just wish I could fold up my giant mac into my pocket (yes, I know it is 60Hz). I would totally do a two screen with one vertical again if I could hide it from the wife.

Cool thing about this monitor is that it is huge for my aging eyes, good contrast, fast response time, decent brightness, has display port 1.2 and USB 3 hub, 60Hz 10 bit color, (75Hz with only 8bit color but I can't really notice that difference), VESA mount. Would get two if they had USB-C for the mac and hide it in the hangar. I think a graphics card with dual DP outs is needed to run them as dual monitors, or a cheap EGPU. Good deal indeed.

So two monitors for me is crossing the feng shui line, hence the reason I need a wider one. Thought someone else reading might need one like I need one. :) Sorry if my aforementioned post was received as a put-down.
