Can a G5 replace a KI209a or similar? Or can I install it in place of the AI and interconnect the G5 to provide advisory data from the NAV radio and IFR GPS?

AFAIK you can only feed the G5 from one source. If the source is a single GPS/NAV unit (430/530 etc) then you can get VOR and GPS guidance. You can also use it like an RMI.

I think if the GPS box has an integrated NAV radio, you are good to go for both GPS and VOR/ILS/LOC navigation. But I believe that Ed's correct about only one NAV source. So, if the NAV radio is a separate box, that's not doable.

Actually Dual Inputs were added(but not if you want to use it with a legacy autopilot) in rev 18 or 19 of the manual.
The bigger issue is they must be Digital Inputs, so SL30, GNC, and a couple others but likely not most radios using a KI209.

Yep. I found this video online showing it working with dual inputs:

As far as I know, there is no way to interface an analog radio to the g5. It’s a problem for both Garmin and Dynon units as they are both digital units. The only info I could get from Dynon is, there are people working on it.

IMHO true use of dual input would be interfacing two of the same types, two GPS and two VOR. These are capable of connecting two GTN (750/650) in any combination which would be dual GPS and dual VOR receivers.

And its true, if you are interfacing a legacy autopilot dual interfacing is not approved.

I will defer to you because I am no avionics expert. Just a potential customer trying to educate myself. Thanks.
