Any idea if the G3X with the EIS is an approved replacement for the primary engine instruments?

I love the G3X Touch in my exp. Not enough to rip out my 9 year old panel in the Cessna, though.

The only thing missing in my G3X is a fuel monitor. It shows flow but there’s no adding/subtracting fuel so no fuel remaining function like my FS450 does. Other than that it’s a complete package. The info display is very easy to adjust to and in my opinion is far superior to round gauges.

Ok, thanks. Depending on installation costs, a G3X may be cheaper than something like an Aspen PFD and a EDM-900. Maybe?

In my exp I considered round flight instruments and an EDM-900 and flipped to the G3X because it had everything for about the same cost. Where I underestimated was in the installation, particularly the wiring. There were no pre-made harnesses and wiring a G3X to the unseen component boxes is intense and time consuming. I hired much of the wiring out and was shocked to get a $6500.00 bill when I picked the harnesses up, and looking back the avionics shop couldn’t have made any money at that. And I still had tons of work remaining. Beware.

Copy all that, thanks. We're at least a year out from making any big changes, so who knows what kind of wiz-bang avionics will be out by the time we are ready to pull the trigger.

If I was going in full tilt on a G3X fully optioned, I’d now be looking at the 500 TXi.

Last I looked the 500 was about $4-5K more. The only functional difference I found was the 500 can talk to other devices while the G3X only speaks Garmin. Not an issue for me. I don't see me adding either to my Cessna.

The bigger problem for the G3X certified version or the G500txi is they must be installed by a Garmin dealer. That's where the money will add up. My experimental G3X ended up around $20K. I'd like to hear a real pirep for what an installed certified system cost all-in.

It is $4000 more to get the G3x 10+7 with EIS than doing dual G5s and an EDM-930. An Aspen is more than dual G5s, so you can figure from there.

Real PIREP in a Bonanza:

G3x 10+7 EIS
GTN 650
GTX 375
G5 backup
GFC500 3 Axis with YD and electric trim
255 NAV/COM
Complete panel rebuild, including new breakers, switches, etc. Removal of vacuum system.

$70,000

Ouch. You better know you’re keeping it forever to do that.

Looks like the G3X won't give the KFC-200 attitude info, but the 500txi will. So I think if/when we do this upgrade, we'll do either a Aspen PFD with an EDM-930, or a G500TXi with EIS. We're getting a single G5 installed next month when we do ADS-B, so we can use that as a backup for whatever we get.

Or something new and better will come out between now and when we want to do this upgrade.

Or none of the above.

Or the zombie apocalypse will happen and we'll all be dead.

After seeing what any further repairs to our KFC-150 would cost, we're going to take the $6,000 we'll save by getting a G3X Touch and apply it toward a new GFC 500 autopilot. Then we'll have a nicer autopilot with an airspeed mode, envelope protection, and some actual support from the manufacturer.

Right now the KFC-200 is working very well, so we are going to leave well enough alone for now. That could change, and that could change our plans for next year. Or my brain could be eaten by zombies.
