Anyone know a good A&P at Thun Field near Tacoma, WA? Over the course of time, I'm going to need one for odds and ends and just thought I may as well go to a good one right off the bat. I'd really like to do some things myself under his supervision and was hoping there's one who is okay with that, too.

My plane is at Avstar in Puyallup right now for some tweaks. He's a beech nut, so dunno if he's any help to you, but I've been pleased so far. He's communicative and fair -- which is already like a B+ in aviation land. It's a minor schlepp from Portland. The new airport gastropub is nice too, if strangely sited. :)

You know, now that you mention it, I guess I could even just fly it to Tacoma Narrows or someplace else. The airplane thing is new to me, so I'm thinking inside the box. Probably don't need to limit my search to just Thun Field, although that certainly would be most convenient. Google shows Avstar being a house in a neighborhood just off the field. That's odd. Also, what's a "gastropub"? Maybe that's slang for an airport restaurant that you leave feeling sick. Again, I'm a neophyte. I'll have to work on my jargon.

Haha, no, it's the hipster way to say "bar and grill but with something such as charcuterie on the menu which provides an opportunity for snootery" :D

You definitely want a local wrench for things like tires, brakes, oil changes and unexpected nonsense.. but I usually travel for my annual and for type-specific things that "matter" to get done right. Kinda like generalist and specialist. You want both in the rolodex.

That's really great advice! Thanks! And thanks for helping me learn the jargon. I certainly don't want to be an uncool pilot.
