I have an old McMurdo Fast Find PLB that needs a battery replacement. Looks like the battery replacement is about 2/3 the cost of a whole new unit.

Are there better choices on the market now, or is the Fast Find still worthwhile to keep it going?

There's a previous thread on PLBs somewhere. For reference, most commercial helicopter ops in the GOM use ACR products.

Yeah, if you don't want a satellite tracker with an annual $ub$cription, text messaging, digital sommelier and voice massage, get the ACR!

I have 2 ACR floating PLBs. No need the the fancy LCD display. Flip open, wait for the big orange helo to show up.

I think its a crock that the batteries aren't serviceable in most of these.
Technically, they are. It's just that the manufacturers made them uneconomically viable to do so.

Some enterprising person does make one for ACR now.

My last battery swap in my ACR was $80 and included a test report. I think that's a fine price for not having to do it myself.

Agree but not getting replaceable batteries back on cell phones either. LOL.

Willing to bet your life on that battery pack?

Not after what quality issues I’ve seen out of Chinese batteries. Not only no, but hell no. I don’t even care if they say they’re buying a big brand name and packaging them, plenty of counterfeits out there.
