I am going to a wedding of my wife's college roommate's daughter. The good news is we are flying. Destination airport is KPTK outside of Detroit. There are 6 FBO's there.

My general question - is there a way to figure where to go short of calling each one?
My specific question - does any of our brain trust have direct experience with that airport?

I have an Archer, so don't care about red carpets or the like, but will have bags and such and it would be nice to either pull rental car out or have luggage carts. Also clean restrooms for Mrs Sykes.

I always go to Pentastar when in PTK. Fuel was cheapest on my program(CAA), the facilities are nice, and the staff is excellent.

Ramp fee.me seems a little off somehow.
Punched in krno, it only has Atlantic. A piper pays $70, rv6 pays $55 and a 180 pays $0. What’s up with that

Maybe they don’t like low wing airplanes.

I am based at KRNO and that seems accurate... except for the 180. Atlantic is the only FBO.

You'd be amazed how often we call and get different answers like that. We have no way to know if we're being lied to over the phone -- just like anyone else who calls. At least, in theory, it saves people a step. :D

If there are other FBOs out there, I'd love to add them and get them into the rotation. What I can't do is just browse AirNav and poach the ones we're missing, since that's.. well.. IP theft.

Did you scroll down a little to the description? The handling fees are waived with a fuel purchase and are pretty much accurate.

What other FBO are you tracking besides Atlantic? That was the only game in down while I was based there from 2015-17.

Cheers,
Brian

My home FBO at PTK is Maven at Midfield. They just remodeled and are very nice folks. They take care of us piston guys very well.

Place I went to recently had 4 FBO’s threw me off. I emailed them all. Turned out only two of four took planes that have single spinners up front, the ones hangar fees were triple the dough.

I’ve been there twice in the last year or so, once purchased the fuel once not.
Do they charge different rates for different little bug smashers?

Easy to explain. The Pipers subsidize the RVs, and the very cool Cessna 180s, which raise the real estate value of any ramp they are parked on ;) , are subsidized by the high-net-worth Cirrus owners, who pay a fee so astronomical it dare not be disclosed in advance. :D

I'll have the Aztec parked at KRNO next weekend. I have an appointment with my bank manager tomorrow to discuss the second mortgage I'll need to take out in order pay for the fees during race week. :(

Just use a different airport with less FBOs in the Detroit area... ;)

I never realized that KTPK has six (!!! o_O) FBOs. We have used ‚Michigan Aviation‘ in the past to pick up / drop of passengers. We really liked that FBO as people were nice and supportive.
