@Sinistar and myself are heading on a westerly heading on Sep 14. planning for WY and KJAC in particular, wondering if we could do a meet up in Casper or some place that side. we are open to suggestions if any other airport makes more sense.

both of us are low VFR pilots, none of us are 17 and bulletproof anymore, so WX will play a big role in this. Our preference is no less than 6000 feet runway and 2 runways.

Reno. For the air races!

Just scheduled an overhaul otherwise I would be there... :-(

Casper works for me....Nate, want to be self-loading cargo?

Driggs is a fantastic airport. Much preferred over Jackson

Absolutely agree, War Birds restaurant and museum...I’m near West Yellowstone, MT. Good FBO there too. Cody, WY is a great spot to fly into as well.

I’ve never done a PoA meet before. Could definitely make it up from Salt Lake if the wx is severe VFR

I could probably stand to fly a little that weekend.

Ironically enough I’ll be in Fargo that day. My wife is 32 going on 60 and we’re going to see Bob Seger at the Fargodome :cornut:

It’s safe to say that no one will approach you at the FBO and ask if you were you

Haven't yet done a PoA meetup, and this is maybe the closest to me yet. But that's Reno air race weekend, so I must send regrets. :(

You all still on for Driggs Saturday? Provided the wx cooperates I’m looking forward to this!

Sounds great, keep the info flowing, I might be going:D

Wag more, bark less, never bite first

Our house is about 15-20 minutes/12 miles south of KAPA (Centennial airport, Englewood, CO) KFTG (Watkins, CO) is about 50-60 minutes/50 miles northeast of us. Maybe we can grab a cup of coffee or meet for a meal?

Jon aja JDW Juan De Wobbly (nick name from kids in summer program several years ago, great group, miss them lots)

Shoot can't make anything out of town on the 12th but if you guys want to make a stop in the DEN (KAPA, KBJC, or KFTGH) area I'd love to meet.

KJAC is beautiful but can be challenging. High altitude with lots of cumulo granitis!

Sounds like you don't have mountain experience. Suggestion, look at the field elevation for the airports you plan to use out here. Consider you manifold pressure drops 1 inch every thousand feet you climb. Load your plane like you plan to have it during your trip and try departing your normal home drone with the reduced power you will experience out here. This will give you an approximation of what to expect. Your performance will be lower due to density altitude and other factors such as how well you can lean for best power. But, this will give you a taste of what you can expect.

Driggs is too far for me, considering the almost daily TStorms in the Denver area, making it a 2 day trip for me. Not possible this weekend, sorry.

we did a test flight with similar load and documented the performance all the way to close to 14k. learned a lot, most notably the requirement for O2 even before what FAA has put in the regs. that has since been addresses by spending money and time. looking at WX over the weekend i am actually surprised to see that CPR/RIW is showing 80's, we thought it will be much cooler than that. if its at 80 degrees, we are going to only fly in the AM. probably being over cautious, but we would rather be cautious than brave and try to get the 182 off the runway just by will power.

leaving from the flat lands is still the plan on Saturday, depending on how we make time, it might be late afternoon getting into CPR or RIW and if its hot and humid, we will most likely avoid it. I will keep this thread updated on our plans

WannFly congrats on doing research and applying it! Hope you wind up with great story and photos/videos to share!

Time to start a meetup.com group.

change of plans , its my dumb fault, but we cant leave the flat lands this Saturday, we will likely leave on Tuesday and hope the WX plays nice, though the prog charts are not painting a great picture right now...
