Ha! I paID $3 FOR THE BACKGROUND MUSIC. (Oops caps... fixed)

Audiojungle is the best place to get somewhat stock free music online for videos and such.

Got the bill... My annual for my Grumman Traveler is over 5000 dollars.
Time to sell it and upgrade to something that is more expensive. For what I have sunk into this plane, I could be flying a lot more advanced machinery.
Ouch. My almost deepest condolences...

Video looks pretty accurate! Excellent documentary!

What was the discrepancy that forced the expense?

New bushings needed on all control surfaces.
Propeller spinner mounting plate has several cracks in it
Far aft (bulkhead I think) in tail has a couple spots of corrosion

I feel ya pain , bruh..... I got hammered in annual this year as well. To the point it triggered a *sell this muthafrenchtoaster * immediately emotion which still lingers like that weekend in Vegas and hoping the pics never made it on to the internet somewhere.

Did you get the call or email that made your heart sink to the pit if your stomach and feel dizzy? Kinda like the FAA calling and saying, you might want to bring a lawyer with you feeling in your stomach?

I’m with ya if so....

Dude, that happens with all older planes. Every few annuals you get a big one. New gear biscuts, or maybe thge gearbox transmission has to go out for inspection, or maybe the exhaust is cracked, or maybe...who knows.

I’ll see your $5000 and raise you mine was found unairworthy. The cost to repair wasn’t worth it. Parted out. Someday I may end up drinking a beer out of a can made of my old plane.

182 would be a good choice for you. Room and payload for the family, better speed, better ride, and able to nicely get in and out of grassy places like 3M0 and 6Y9.

Welcome to the mile high annual club...

FYI, 2 adults and 2 kids and full fuel in the 182 I fly leaves 50lbs for baggage.

I really like the 182 - solid aircraft, it just does what you tell it to do. I found it very easy to fly.

182? What 182? Not a C god forbid

I don't want to be a Cessna pilot. But...

I love the plane but I will end up selling it next year.
Primary reason is CG and the wife's comfort.

Useful load is not an issue but my son is growing up at an astounding rate and on our last XC, the CG was max Aft so my wife had a bag under her feet and I had a bag under my feet which is probably not a safe thing to do. Also the plane is slow and very light so we were getting tossed around for hours and she was miserable and visibly praying. It was really bad and that has happened twice this year.

I think if I get a 182, we go a little faster, Carry more, have room to spread out, and the CG is a non issue.

I will never own a plane as pretty as my Grumman though. Maybe once the kids are out of the house, I will get back into a Tiger or an RV.

Just go experimental and leave behind these absurd costs forever. Your wallet, your wife and your kids college funds will appreciate it. My last condition inspection cost me $100. Ok, plus about 30 hours of effort.

The only problem here is your mission. It might be a challenge to find an experimental with your weight and performance needs.

That is some rotten luck, don't think I have ever heard of a Grumman annual being that high. I do recall from other threads your mechanic tends to be on the pricey side of the curve. Never flown a 182 but I could see the appeal.

Not unless he changed mechanics. The guy I use, and I think he uses, is a bargain at twice the price.

Maintaining 182 or any other plane is not exactly cheap plus the biggest negative is the wing placement

I was waiting for you to set the money on fire, Bryan. :)

Those larger annual bills always suck and are unpleasant. You get used to them with time. As Bill said, this happens with all older airplanes. Depending on the condition of the plane, it can take 2-3 years to get it "well sorted" before you can coast for a while.

I agree a 182 would be a great option for you.

Why not a Cherokee 235? loads cheaper to buy. If me & pax had no lower limb issues like ankle or knee issues that's probably what I'd do.

Now, go out and fly it some more and enjoy it! The cost of more 100LL will seem minuscule as part of overall percentage. :)
