This will be my first time going to OSH.

My Plan A is to fly from TN to Indy Friday night and then from Indy to OSH Saturday morning.

If the forecast isn't looking good for Saturday, but is good for Friday night, I’d like to fly up and get as close as I can to RIPON. I was thinking FLD, but I saw in the NOTAM that arrivals after sunset are discouraged.

Any recommendations for an airport close to osh (Ideally south) to plan on getting in late and camping at?

Well, you could call Wisconsin Aviation at Juneau KUNU which is right along the way and the last thing you'll hit before Ripon in that direction and ask if they have camping there this time of year... They don't normally have the facilities for camping but they may accommodate people coming/going to/from OSH. If they say no, ask them about Watertown KRYV as well - Same FBO.

Hartford (KHXF) is currently closed for runway construction, but the NOTAM there has them opening on Saturday. They have a shiny new runway, but as of last weekend no way to taxi to or from it since everything around it is torn up and under construction. It looks like they're either not re-doing the ramp, or waiting until after OSH. Definitely call ahead if you want to try this one.

Brennand 79C which is the closest field to OSH does have camping around the time of the show. Room might be limited due to proximity, so I'd suggest calling ahead on this one too.

Wautoma Y50 is past Ripon for you but close to it and is pretty accommodating but also busy. Call ahead (starting to sound like a broken record, I know).

If you don't like phone calls - 63C Adams County has excellent camping facilities for any time of year and is probably just far enough away that you can get away without calling ahead. This is probably the only one in the list where there's a shower for you to use before you launch for OSH.

Have a great trip!

KUES and KMWC are both well lighted with multiple approaches if you’re IR. KUES also has great facilities and nearby hotels. Neither however would be great camping choices.

KBUU might be workable but would need to check on camping.

KSBM is a great airport but again unknown campaign.

Sorry maybe not much help.

Have you considered going to Madison and spending the night in a hotel? Costs a little more, but saves the trouble of making and breaking camp for one night.

Kunu or 63C are possible candidates. I’m at buu, I ‘think’ you could set up a tent there, don’t see it often though.

If it does get late-ish, I’d look along your route in IL or IN too.

Why not a grass strip like 62C? Cheap fuel as well.

Portage is the friendliest airport I've ever stopped at on the way. I think there is a grassy field where an inconspicuous tent might be pitched.

We have a room reserved in Madison for Saturday, just in case. I hope we don’t need it.

caution on taxi and noise while pitching your tent. There might be others who got there early and set up a tent.

Thanks for all the suggestions. Fortunately I was able to make it in today before the storms came in and dumped all the rain. I just feel bad for all the people that couldn’t fly over when the weather was nice due to the parking/camping area conditions.
