Daily Pic

Very cool... B-47, C-97, etc... But man, I hate to see historic aircraft parked outside. :(

Stopped at the Grissom AFB Museum.

OK, I'll bite... Where is that?
Pearl Harbor. I did the whole Arizona thing the first time I went in 03, but the aviation museum didn’t exist yet. I somehow missed it on my last 2 trips, and made a point to see it this time. There’s not all that much on display, compared to the major museums, but it’s neat nonetheless. The unrestored B-17 was really cool

Has the "whole Arizona thing" re-opened? When I was in Maui last fall it was closed for extensive renovation. A disappointment for sure!

Nope. Arizona Memorial is still closed until October at the earliest. They just now awarded a contract.

Thanks for the idea...

Never heard of 1A7, but it’s not terribly far from here. Looks like a good XC destination for me. Anything there? Restaurant?

Looks like a nice quiet place along the river in the middle of nowhere.

Yeah. Looks like some beautiful scenery, but not much there according to my Google-fu.
There is zippo... Notta.... but an awesome backwood remote airport. Grass is waist high with chiggers. An ole porta baking in the sun. The RWY sits right up against the ridge. When I approached I couldn't see the field until I was on top of those hills you see behind my plane. It's a tight pattern. There is some stuff on You Tube I think of the place

Lost 20lbs about removing all the old upholstery n crap. Next to go once she’s back together is the horsehair stuffed seat cushions- ordered the foam and airetex material to sew her new seats- going to be charcoal grey. This turned out to be quite the undertaking- more glue cleaning and prep than I realized...

I can almost smell the fumes! Gives it that New Airplane smell. :)

Yea I miss the old smell, the new seats and new seat foam really gunna do that.... I think I might have to put a rag with old oil and one with 100LL on it in a bucket and set it inside till it smells right again! Lol.

Painted some pieces red tonight, going to redo tomorrow they turned out “too red” I was hoping for a more burnt red, kinda like what’s on my yoke, as I want to paint instrument cover with it, but this particular red is too fire engine like.. :( makes the Johnson bar look like a “pull in case of emergency” type unit!

A not very exciting 18 minutes of video, flying low up the Hudson.
Do you have bigger tires on that cub??? Something tells me I saw you one day on my long XC when working on my instrument license...

Sometimes. Not on this flight.
The plane was in" airshow" configuration. I was out tightening up some maneuvers for the Rhinebeck show in September.

It was last year around KMSV in the am. I could look in my log to find the date. Stood out- I was under hood and my CFI spotted a cub above us that didn’t show up on the box. Was a good lesson about always scanning. Did an approach there that was fogged in with no chance of success. Was a glass like day. I might have a pic somewhere.

We spent some days in Talkeetna, Alaska for a bush flying training at Alaska Floats & Skis. We loved it and met several times in unique locations! We landed on a sandbar, on a mountain top and on a highway!

Gotta have some non flying fun too! Pulling kids in tubes is literally just as fun as flying for me- it never gets old to me, and listening to that throaty 6 cylinder Mercury is a joy too...

Looks like a lot of fun. Now try landing at those same places with a C-206..!!:lol:

Could have been me.
My partner in crime tows gliders and instructs at N82, and I will occasionally fly over to annoy him and play at the airports on that side of the river.
In the Cub, that's a 2 to 4 stops for fuel flight day.

After a 1 day delay for WX, I made it out of TN and arrived KPCZ yesterday. Some pics of flight. Had to thread the needle around storms but it worked out VFR. Sunrise departure, and some pics of flood waters in Illinois and the Madison Wisconsin airport
