Here’s the route:
CLTCH2 MAULS Q40 ALEAN VXV

What is Q40?

You da man!

So how does a J airway differ from a Q route? J airways aren’t limited to RNAV only?

Yep - think of a jet route as a high altitude version of a victor airway. You don’t need RNAV capability to fly one - VOR to VOR will work too.

I was once cleared IFR to follow T202 around Charlotte's Class B and It was news to me... I hadn't seen an RNAV route until then...

Simply put they are just the high altitude version of T-routes. Low has V and T. High has J and Q. You need RNAV to fly T’s and Q’s. You don’t to fly V’s and J’s but you’re more than welcome to use RNAV to fly them.
