My ex-wife and I were co-owners of our airplane and as part of the divorce settlement I got 100 percent ownership of the airplane. I've tried once to submit the correct paperwork to the FAA to get the record changed with the aircraft in my name only and it was rejected. Does anyone have a known-good example of how to write the bill of sale for the transfer?

It's pretty easy,,she signs off as seller, you sign as buyer.
form is shown above.

Didn't the FAA tell you specifically why it was rejected or did you get a generic notice? Never had one rejected, so curious what they sent back to you.

Cheers,
Brian

Chamberlain is right... Make sure things match EXACTLY the wording (including words like co-owner, etc...) as the existing paperwork. The Aircraft Registration people are really cranky. If you get stuck, they do answer email and phone inquiries and are pretty helpful at that point.

It took me a decade to get Margy's last name changed on the aircraft registration when we were married. We showed up at the FAA building at Oshkosh with the marriage certificate. The Airman group immediately fixed their name in the computer while we waited. We filled out the paperwork (providing the marriage certificate) for the aircraft and they lost it. It took me a long time to get them to agree as to just what the form of the change in name was required. All this and we weren't changing owners, just updating the name. I had further hickups changing the address a few years later.

Hi everyone.
It is my understanding that IF an acft is held in LLC there are some additional things to look into, as to how the former / LLC has registered the acft originally.
The form above does not include / show, or at least I cannot see how that would be handled?
Some Title cos.war about the problems of LLC ownership, does anyone know how to verify that it was done correctly when the LLC first registered it, and who signs it from LLC?
Thank you.

It's hard to follow your post Blue, punctuation, capitalization, and proper sentences are your friend.

The question is whether the LLC is selling the plane or you're selling the LLC (including the plane) to the new owner.

The FAA will want someone who is authorized to sign for the LLC to do so and indicate what their position is. You must list the name of the LLC as it appears in the state records (which will typically include the LC or LLC at the end). You must state the full name of the signer and the position he has in the LLC that authorizes him to convey the property.

The bigger issue is when you transfer an aircraft TO an LLC or corporation. They'll want proof of US national control. There's a PDF file with the guidance for this on the Aircraft Registry webpages.

That's a blank form. I'm looking for a sample filled-out form.
The correct filling out of the form depends on how the (1) registration was originally set up -the current ownership, and (2) how the buyer is set up.

A sample filled out form for when Human A is transferring to Human B is useless to explain how to properly fill one out when the transfer is from an LLC to a Human or any of the other ways an aircraft might be owned.

Since I don't know your situation, this might not apply: You mentioned divorce settlement. Was the aircraft registered in both of your names? If so, the FAA will be looking for both of your signatures as the "seller" on the Bill of Sale.
