Any tips for getting through to the FAA to find out status on additional info I sent? Always a prerecorded message. Or do I just need to bug my AME to do it?

Call very early in day.

But it’s well known that the AMCD has way WAY more work to do than they have staff and the government shutdown around Christmas didn’t help. So patience is needed.

You can try your AME, but unless you are a revenue airman, there may not be a quick resolution from that angle.

You can also try your regional flight surgeon. Some members of PoA have had success with that route when they were having difficulty reaching OKC.

this AME will call for airmen he has submitted medicals for, though i do so after what I consider a reasonable wait time. From the limited info in your question, I would call in the 5th week. For a 1st class HIMS submission ... 4 to 5 months.

I just found out to my dismay that a file I faxed in 04/28/19 is supposed to be scanned tomorrow......that’s 58 days.....this has completely revised my calling schedule......

Thanks, this is for additional information I had to submit within 60 days on a prescription after being issued the medical certificate. They just wanted history on the med and when it was discontinued. I sent in but want to make sure they receive. Starting aviation school in Sept....

To me, the most absurd part of that whole thing is that you FAXED something to the FAA. Do they not do email? (though I'll admit in my experience Doctors and those in related areas, like personal injury lawyers, still seem to love fax machines).

I wondered the same thing. My letter specifically stated I had to mail it, which has me worried they wont receive it (stupidly sent without the certified mail). Thinking of sending again with certified mail but man email would be so much easier!!

My S/O is a psychologist, and must retain fax capabilities because some agencies and providers won't take an emailed form or report!

What is their reasoning for this? Cyber security concerns?

Cybersecurity meets HIPPA although I don't know if the feds are exempted from HIPPA. The Dr. I used to use had zero electronic connections with the outside world to avoid the issues. Phone call or FAX was it-in or out. (That's not why I don't go see him any more-he sold his practice and left town for the west coast.)

The scanning thing was to prevent regular mail (and fedex) stuff from giving anthrax to the officers. The manual scanning of faxes is ridiculous.

While it may be the reason, that seems like a bogus excuse. Many businesses (banks, law firms, major corporations) transmit highly, highly sensitive materials via email (regular email at that) every day. Far more sensitive than some yahoo's medical records that most 3rd parties don't give a sh*t about anyway.

We're not talking about EMAIL, we're talking about fax. It's pathetically easy to scrub incoming faxes. Even emails aren't that hard.
