My favorites in Central Texas have always been:

1. Airport Diner, Fredericksburg, TX
2. Cooper's Pit BBQ, Mason, TX
3. Southern Flyer Diner, Brenham, TX

Any other good ones in the area?

Are we restricting this to just burgers?

Add Dixie Chicken (KCLL) to your list

If you're willing to take a courtesy car:
Smithville - Pocket's Grille - this is one of my favorites. Good food, easy flight for us.
Giddings - Santa Fe Steakhouse Good food, good prices, and one of those really big salad bars I love!
Taylor - Davis Grocery - my favorite BBQ
Taylor - Taylor Cafe, Also known as Vincel's BBQ
Lockhart - many choices on BBQ - I like Blacks, but have nothing against the others!
Burnet - Storm's Good ol' greasy burger!
Lampasas - Also has a Storm's and Brad's burgers.

Walking Distance:
Taylor - Mas Fajitas It's okay Mexican food next to the airport. Good reason to come see me!
Rockdale - Becky's Sandwiches is a short walk from the airport. I've never been there, but good reviews from other pilots.

Take a flight to an airport near a bud's place and cook them burgers home-made!!! That's for sure what I would do. Home cooked meals always the best. Mix that in with a meditative flight and bam you have a good day on your hands :)

I wouldn't call any of those Central Texas :), but I've been to Stephenville and Angleton and can attest they're both great.

I had no idea they were closing Cypress. Too bad, it's a neat airport. Any idea if they're selling hangars, etc?

Just a few of the places we'll fly to for lunch. Only one out of Texas... Natchitoches for Mama's is one of my favorites.

-Coopers in Llano
-Coopers in Junction (not affiliated the other Coopers as I understand it)
-Chicken Earl’s in Leakey. Only open Tues and Friday’s. Their slogan, from when they used to only be open on Tuesdays, is “Fat Free Tuesday’s; because the fat is free on Tuesdays.” 2 mile walk from Real County airport, unless you have a friend in town. And if you mis-pronounce Leakey and Real (it’s not leaky and reel) you will be branded from NYC. Or Dallas or Houston.
-Nice diner with good burger on the field in Uvalde. It’s not central Texas, but still reasonably close.

And the burger is cheaper still if you buy at least $100 worth of gas!

Use to fly into Karnes County Airport, walk across a field to Barth's Resturant. Anybody know if that is still available? I have not been down that way in years

Pretty sure it is. Did not include on my list since it it neither a burger place or in central Tx.

Landed T82 on Saturday from El Paso at about 930am local (left at about 0530 MST or 630 CST). I turned away from the field twice (360s 5 miles west) due to number of inbound aircraft and their poor techniques. Was on downwind when a Cessna overflew mid field and nearly collided with an RV6 on downwind. I thought sure I was about to see a mid-air, it was REAL ClOSE. I re-entered the pattern and had a Cardinal do the same maneuver directly in front of me:mad:

After landing, the 3 fellows tied down near me proceeded to power out of their parking positions rather than pull their aircraft out, prop blasting me and a couple of others.

Hope this isn't the usual attitude for that field as I'd like to return ...

This reinforces my position on why the midfield crossing to downwind at pattern altitude is insane. Who started this crap, anyway?

Stephenville is ~115 miles from Austin Exec. Central becomes relative and Texas gets smaller with an airplane.

When someone is asking for places to eat in Central Texas, I don’t think Stephenville applies. Angleton is almost on the coast!

There was a red Cessna there a few weeks ago doing stop n goes. He proceeded to takeoff again after stopping about 5\8 of the way down the runway. He used 99.999999% of that pavement getting back airborne. I thought i was going to have to call the ambulance.

Never seen or heard it that bad, but yes, Saturday and Sunday mornings get real busy. Exacerbated by the facts that 1) prevailing winds usually favor 14, 2) RP for 14, and most traffic is arriving from the east.

I'm in a pretty good location central to all the good places to get a $100 Hamburger in Central Texas:

My favorite place to go for a training flight was IFR to San Saba for barbecue at Santa Fe Station. If you survived the ride into town in the beater van, it was awesome 'Cue.

That's all gone now.. Bummer!! :( :rolleyes2:  :nonod:

[EDIT] Update: There is a new BBQ place in the same spot:
