I'm just about ready for my checkride but went about training in the silliest way possible. After starting and stopping twice I finally stuck with the training in 2008 and got all my PPL requirements completed and started preparing for the checkride. And then the wheels fell off and every flight was worse than the one before. I decided to take a little break.... And then the recession hit and I took a long long break. Started up again in 2015 and then an illness caused me to stop again...

Started up again in May after 11 years since my last flight. I re-wrote the knowledge exam after two weeks of brushing up, got my basic med and after about 12 hours of re-learning the checkride maneuvers to ACS I'm one again close to checkride ready. Really hoping to finish it this time and finally become a pilot!!

Good luck! BTW, if it's any help, ......

If you got your 3rd class medical when you were training in 2008 or in 2011, you're eligible to go Basic Med and not have to fool with an AME again. I don't know what illness caused you to stop in 2011, but if it will cause you a difficulty in getting a new class 3, look into Basic.

Good advice. I did go ahead and get BasicMed. I’m simultaneously applying for an initial special issuance for my third class as my condition isn’t disqualifying for BasicMed but does require an initial special issuance for a third class medical. Strange situation. I want the third class as I plan to fly to Canada, which doesn’t recognize BasicMed. But at least I don’t have to wait to solo or get my private.

Best of luck, we're pulling for you.

Hang in there. It only took me 23 years to get mine. Life kept getting in the way.
