The baron I got my ME engine rating in a couple years ago looks like it's down for the count. This was in a partnership with two other guys. Got this message yesterday. Sad. We sold it about a year-and-one-half ago.

Dave

Looks like our old Baron isn’t going to survive. I did a google search on N6DL and came upon a salvage site. Looks like she had a gear up and they are salvaging the plane. Here’s the link to the pictures:

Dave,

Its always sad to see planes you have time in or once owned go down. Its like a part of your flying personality get lost. Sorry to hear it.

Maybe you should buy a piece of it for old times sake?

That's an interesting thought Lance! Actually, I may have some pieces of it somewhere in my hanger! Maybe I'll find 'em when I do my Spring cleaning :rolleyes:

Dave, I wouldn't write her off (from ever flying again, I mean); looks like a soundly-repairable aircraft, one that an enterprising A&P might buy, fix and fly again.

Dave;

It is like loosing an old buddy. The Turbo Arrow that I co owned some 20 years ago is gone. All I have left is a duplicate flight manual and a key fob that I had made. Planes are like wonderful friends; they stay with you in your mind forever.

Just because she's on a salvage site doesn't mean it won't be fixed, just that the insurance company/insured decided not to fix it but rather pay policy. Insurance companies calculate repair costs rather high, so a total economic loss to them, isn't necessarily one to a shop that needs a project in the corner to keep the hands busy during slow times.

...come to think of it, Dave Taylor said he was looking for a project...

I am going to let logic overrule any emotion for now, Spike and avoid any projects!

This, from an aircraft owner. :dunno:

Got that right. Bet it's flying again in less than a year. Imagine my surprise when I saw this airplane on the ramp in Little Rock a few years after this happened.

There is a great story behind that picture that needs to be told. It involves a calm pilot and dang good pilot skills. I have to tell you though I have seen that picture several times and this is the FIRST time I have noticed that burn spot on the fuselage. Man that thing was burning from the inside and created that spot on the outside!! YIKES that was a hot fire!!!!

I see you were talking about Baron N6DL. I owned it from about 1983 to 1995. Sold it to an individual in Denton Tx. Then saw shortly afterwards it was damaged by a hard landing. Not a gear up landing. Not surprised if it was done by the individual I sold it to. Very poor pilot. How in the hell do you land a baron hard. Easiest flyingairplane there is. Oh well. Should have kept it. Wish I still had it safe with me.
