Rough River Kentucky Fly-in 2019 - April 26-28

I would assume but not certain that we might try to do something Sat Night, if everyone brought something like chips. dip, salsa, snacks deserts we could chip in and get meat. If there is a store reasonably close I can take some folks shopping.
yes let's do this. And it's probably late in the game to put a spreadsheet together but maybe we should bring a hodgepodge of meats and other stuff

I have a bunch of ground venison(deer burger) in the freezer if that interests anyone.

I’ll be driving and I need to get to Walmart to get some disposable paper coveralls for any passengers needing transport from the local hoosegow (if the group comes up with the bail money or bribe or both).

Cheers

I am simply amazed there were no additional comments about the meat we were bringing.

At some point in the afternoon a group took a Pontoon Boat out and tried their best to sink it, or was this Saturday, memory is fading as i didn't go. No names will be mentioned.

and maybe the infamous boat ride of death.

The near sinking of the SS Beachcraft was Friday. I'm not naming names either, but the captain looked a lot like the guy at the helm below.

Well there goes the anonymity. The problem was that the single engine boat was being piloted by a twin engine pilot.

Looks like a no wake zone......

When the ramp fills up at Rough River, do they park in the grass?

That's a good question... on the satellite picture I can only see a handful of painted Ts on the ramp. Presuming the spots are evenly spaced and some of the Ts are just faded/invisible from that view I only count around 14 or so spaces and that might be high. I don't have any anchors for turf parking... wonder if I should make a rush order.

I have been in there on just a random weekend and it gets congested. Departures turning waiting on arrivals coming into the ramp.

When I look south of the ramp at the grass east of the runway, I'm seeing what could be a bunch of tie-down spots... little circles in the grass spaced/arranged about right for a permanent tie down anchor. *Sigh* did we already discuss this months ago? Did someone already talk to the airport manager and warn them about us? I would think so but there are a lot of pages to go through..

They have been warned, I think I heard that the KY Guard may be called in to restore peace and order.

Cowman, I have a stroller for you to use.

Well this sucks, I just got an e-mail that my reservation has been cancelled due to local flooding, should someone check with the lodge?

Looking more like a windy forecast this weekend.
Also, a two person fatal at the home drome today - Henderson KY (KEHR)... No details yet. Ugh :(
Ya'll be careful..

FYI...No fuel at Rough River so just in case you miss the NOTAM for KJQD: no fuel available until May.

Ugh, been a lot lately it seems.

I didn't realize you were at Henderson. Friend of mine had them do avionics work for him and I nearly gave my Arrow to them to refurb the Avionics

Also gonna be a TFR on Friday around Indy which may impact some inbounders from the north.

So far, my plans are intact. Coming into 2I0 for lunch with the in-laws Fri and then we'll be into rough river that afternoon. Will probably be on our way out later Sun afternoon.

I'm going to bring along 6lbs of deer burger(with some beef fat mixed in) that would be good for making burgers or if we could get ahold of a chili pot or something that's also an option.

I will make it shortly after lunch friday, method of transportation is still up in the air, though...

We are riding in style with the Flynn’s. Plan on being there mid afternoon on Friday.

What’s the word on the flooding? Is that for the campgrounds only?

We plan to be off by 8:30 AM Friday.
One fuel stop @ Kennett Memorial and we should be in around 1:45.

I hope to drop in by 0900 Saturday morning and hit the buffet. I have to bug out in the the PM. Duty calls. Watching ceilings being VFR and all

EDIT- Have a front seat open if someone needs a ride...... within reason of course HZD-2I3

The airport, cabins and lodge are at a higher elevation than the campgrounds so maybe not affected. Lake is at 509' right now and airport 577'. Then again they may just be exercising unwarranted caution, but the closest campground I found was an hour away.

There's a nice little BBQ joint just up the road from there if you grab a courtesy car. And the fuel is always dirt cheap. It's a great stop on a long trip!

Folks coming in west of CVG if you need a pit stop and something to eat, Hangar 5 at BAK is a good stop. MOA's usually not an issue. Come hungry

Wish I could be there guys! Have a good time, and drink early and often for me!

As Dave said we should be there early afternoon Friday. Hope there’s still ramp parking available for a 39’ wingspan.

So as it stands now, I am trying to get a camp site in Glendale KY, if that one is sold out I will try for the KOA at Horse Cave. Glendale is about 55 minutes and Horse Cave 1:15 minutes from Rough River. This means we will likely not head over Friday night and will plan to head over mid morning on Saturday leaving early evening Saturday night, meaning spend most of Saturday with the gang. If neither of those spots pan out I am not sure what we will do. This truly sucks but I guess it would have been much worse had they not e-mailed me today and just let me show up to a flooded campground.
