My medical was denied for past dui. Faa needs a substance abuse evaluation. I tried to get this done before it was denied but wasn’t able too in time. I’m currently in the Kansas City area and looking for a AME or someone that’s approved for this. Any help would be appreciated.

Dr Bruce Chien http://www.aeromedicaldoc.com/ does this type of work and will give advice, he knows his stuff. Dr Lou who comes here also does this I believe. Do a search on dui on this site. Good luck, make sure you don't drink anymore other wise it's not worth trying.

do a google search for a LMHC in your area (licensed mental health counselor). Depending on your legal records and an evaluation such as this, the FAA can continue to evaluate your case.

The last letter I received from FAA they needed a addiction evaluation and a signed statement, wasn’t able to get that in time, no criminal record or any other incidents besides this. I’m a 70hr student pilot working on PPL , would love to finish if I could.

So make sure the Cert. Alcohol and Drug Counselor has command of DSM 4. FAA is not interested in the DSM 5's 2 year history - they want lifelong histories of 5 items:
Development of Tolerance
Continued use I n the face of negative consequences
Lifestyle centered on the use of substance.
Loss of control (blackouts)
Any withdrawal syndrome in your life, ever.

....else the evaluation be judged unsatisfactory for use by FAA.

So a FAA counselor would know these items for the right interview?

Well, the FAA certified Psychiatrists are big $$s and about $3,000 and that sounds above what is required.

When I engage a CADC on behalf of airman, the engagement always includes a specification of what has to be included in the evaluation. The evaluator can come to any conclusion he feels appropriate, but if it doesn't have the DSM 5 elements, it's a waste of time. I usually choose older CADCs who have an M.A- they usually recall DSM4. If they give you the DSM 5 review it will be of no use to FAA.

I also point out that recommendations by that professional (which they always include for the judge) carry no water at the agency.
