Let's talk about what's in your flight bag that you never use.

That I never use?

Charts, fuel tester, logbook, flashlight.

That I use every flight?

Patch cord to get music into intercom, sirius receiver, gopro
 
Funny question. I was thinking about this.

"Never" used? Nothing. Seldom used, a whole bunch of stuff. I now carry two bags. The big one is for extended flights where I might need something just in case. A much smaller one is for local and instructional flights and is limited to headset, iPad, kneeboard, writing implements, and cables for my tablet and phone (and my Square for those instructional flights :D).

Barf bag. Never used it. It is 20 years old, so I am not even sure if it is any good.
 
I practice the Zen art of simplification. Whenever I feel like my helmet bag is getting cluttered, I dump it all out on the kitchen table, then pick up each item. If it doesn't illicit a feeling of dread over not having it, it gets relocated somewhere else, either the bottom drawer of my desk, or the trash can, as appropriate.

The least used item in my helmet bag (currently) is a Microtim handheld altimeter. I bought it to compare against the suspect altimeter in my panel. Lets just say I suspect the GPS altitude on my iThing is closer to being correct than baralt in my instrument panel.

I really only carry a headset and my iPad currently. My actual flight bag, which is still full of random airline crap, is still sitting in a closet next to my old jepp case.

I’ve been to busy with training to fly for fun. Hopefully I’ll be able to start back a few weekends a year soon.
 
I was going to say FAR/AIM but some folks just don't understand when you're kidding

I have stuff stuffed in seat pockets, glove box, and laying in the back seat. Ain't got no bag.
 
My bag is fairly small, an old camera case.

Many of those of us who rent use a bag. I can't leave items in the plane so I need a convenient way to carry my headset, iPad, Stratux, etc.
 
I've never used my PLB, but someday I may be glad I lug it along on every flight.
 
Flight Bag is a multipocketed fanny pack at this point. Everything in it gets used. Everything else was moved to an appropriate location.
 
I've never needed my handheld radio in flight, but the planes I'm renting only have a single radio so I like having a backup.

I also carry a pair of eyeglasses in case I have a problem with my contacts, but so far I've never needed them.

A firearm is another piece of gear I haven't needed to use (yet), but I don't clutter the flight bag with it. Instead, the .38 snub is in a pants pocket, the 9mm is carried IWB, the .32ACP is in an ankle holster, the NAA .22WMR is in my hat, and if I'm flying over a remote area there's a S&W .357 in a shoulder holster. Unfortunately, this does cut down the fuel load in the Tecnam LSA, but it's better to be safe.
