150 crashed going to my home field

What a weird-assed way to start an article about a plane crash:

"Car jacks hoisted Donald Hamilton Jr.'s rusted out Volkswagen Passat as he drilled into the radiator. Recently, Hamilton Jr. fixed the exhaust pipe, but he hit a raccoon on the way home, which caused his radiator problems."

Glad the pilot appears to be doing OK.
Yeah, amazing considering the looks of the plane!

reports came in that Simpson’s plane lost power in the air before he tried to make a crash landing
Lucky for him the plane lost power. Making a crash landing is much more difficult when you haven't lost power.

Loss of power = fuel exhaustion?

More proof that flying is safer than driving. I've never hit a raccoon in flight (but I have hit a bird in my car).

Sounds like the author gets paid by the word

I want to know what this guy looks like....

"cars raced to the same call Tom Tryniski heard as he sat in the attic of his detached garage at 309 S. 4th St. listening to his police scanner."

We used to do that as kids, but we certainly didn't rush to the scene!

Journalism degrees are worth less and less each day. I've seen this in several local papers, writers have no idea how to write a news article.

Just trying to display his creative writing skills.

Well duh, of course not. Whoever heard of flying raccoons? Flying squirrels on the other hand are a real danger. Freakin’ dudes are always NORDO and doing overhead entries to the pattern. Hate those frackers.

This part of the article solidifies my nomination for a Pulitzer....

"Throughout the crash and its aftermath, Hamilton Jr. stayed with the Passat. He and a friend tightened parts behind the headlights, fixed the radiator and checked to make sure the car would withstand a move to North Carolina."

Wow.....I suspect a recent college graduate, that had previously owned a VW, on a first assignment.

In another story, VW Passat taken out by a 10 pound raccoon... As young Rocky Raccoon was crossing the street, he was struck in the eye by a VW. Young Rocky didn't like that, He said I'm gonna get that boy, but he was rushed to the local doctors office where the doctor came in, stinking of gin, and proceeded to lie on the table. He said Rocky you met your match, and Rocky said, doc it's only a scratch, and I'll be better I'll be better doc as soon as I am able......

Rocky is seriously coonsidering filing charges against the driver of the VW for failing to yield right of way to the larger animal....

I actually thought the above was a joke, like you were mocking how ridiculous this airplane accident article was by making up a ridiculous example of a report about a car accident.

Then I saw it was a copy and paste from the real thing

You ever been to Syracuse?

Like a third world country... That radiator repair was pretty interesting reading by comparison.

Hey, I represent that remark!

I liked the part where the pilot "tried to make a crash landing". I figure he was trying to make *a* landing, but crashed.

If he "tried to make a crash landing" he was apparently quite successful. If he was trying to land, but crashed, that could be deemed Pilot Error.

This thread is far more creative and a better read than that trash article. Bravo!

You have to be fully ambulatory to call it a good landing, so we'll mark that one as "under review"

And yeah, that article is a scream . Editor must be on vacation
