Earmuff on your dog?

Taxi to Parking
My dog had them removed within the first 5 minutes of flight. So did my parents dog. Gave up on him wearing them after about flight number 2. He will be 12 in august, has flown with me since he was 9 weeks old, and can still hear just fine. Majority of the time in a Comanche.

Mutt muffs suck, they do nothing to deaden the noise.
4paws aviation are far better designed but their straps really suck, they're far to narrow and, by the time you get them on tight enough to seal, the dog is being choked.
If you're going to use muffs, then I'd recommend 4paws with a customized strap.
Edit: Buddy (below) had over 400 hours when he passed last December. Probably about 50/50 muffs on/of and, just like EdFred's Kaiser, he could still hear his treat bag being opened from the other side of the house!

I have the mutt muffs but I've never used them on the dog in the airplane because the dog has never flown with me in an airplane. She's 13 or 14 now and can barely go an hour in the car so I don't think she's going to be doing any flying.

Mutt muffs. They seem to work fine and the dog is used to them. It’s 90ish dB in our plane at cruise, if I remember correctly. My audiologist friend says that isn’t enough for immediate hearing damage, but can cause problems over long periods of time, so I really try to keep them on her. Even if it only knocks the dB down a little, I think it gets you out of the danger zone. Takeoff, however, is a lot louder, so there is that.

They stay on well but have you ever cupped them over your own ears to see if they actually deaden the sound? (If they're large enough)
I have.
I could still hear a soft voice from 40...50 feet away.
But...
I just checked their website and it appears as if they've re-engineered them. The cups are now far "deeper" than the ones that I had for Buddy were. Wonder if they're any better...

I have the 4 paws off your recommendation. We like them and our Boston is fine with them. But yeah the straps suck and adjusting them is a pain. What straps do you use for them?

My dog flew with me several times. No ear muffs. She went completely deaf ... when she was 15 years old. She passed away last month at 16 and a half. Bigger danger was her spotting a jack rabbit when I was pre-flighting, she always stayed close by without a leash UNLESS she spotted a rabbit.
She always rode shotgun in the car, but was back floor board in the previous Tiger (which she didn't like). Approaching Guadalupe Peak heading to Carlsbad NM (short flight 1 HR), I caught a gentle continuous down draft ... she used the negative G to float her way to the front seat "where she belonged" according to the look after she worked her way up

We've tried various forms of ear protection for our pups. But they get them off within a few minutes. The longest lasting was a cut off sock. which stayed on for about an hour into a 4 hour trip.
