I have now gotten around to writing up the 16.5 hour flight, as well as the supporting flights around it, with maps and pictures. It's on my new website at the following link! The website also covers a number of my previous flights, with more being added, and will be following the around the world trip.

In answer to the main question that I didn't cover there; "Travel John"s are highly effective and recommended for such a flight.

Curious ... will you have O2 with you on the flight? I ask because you mentioned serious fatigue after the US flight.

It's something I'm still debating. The vast majority of my flights will be low, and I can see it being hard to get it refilled along the way.

Mad props, my friend. I have a huge amount of respect for people with the stones to take on a task like this. Can I ask how many hours you have? And I'd love to know if you've talked to others who have done this.

I wish you all the best in your adventure!

Thanks! I got about 2,500 hours so far. I've chatted to a bunch of others who've done similar things, and have done similar things myself although not quite on the same scale.

That's absolutely amazing. I gather you fly only personally, as in you are not a professional pilot? Or do I have that wrong? I'd love to hear more about your journey.

I just tallied up my log book today... 244 hours. :)

Right, just for fun! If you click around on my website there's write-ups on some of my other trips, and a bit about my flying background and where I've flown. I've been very lucky to have the chance to do some cool trips!

Question - the picture of the 182 on your website doesn't show wheelpants. Would a couple of knot advantage be worth the weight on your longer legs, or have you done the math and ruled them out?

The wheel pants came off for the Alaska trip. They're back on now, and will stay on for the flight around the world!

Nice meeting you! Glad you enjoyed our famous cow!

@Katamarino , I thoroughly enjoyed reading your 'Coast to Coast' story. Was that trip done back in 2007? I guess the dates on the blog posts were confusing me on the timing. I was trying to find a date in the text but didn't. One map you posted had USA 2007 on it.

Thanks, yes, that was my first big trip back in 2007!

No pic, no cow.

Did you find the man a copy of Mylo Hatzenbuhler's album "I'm Big Time Now" so he could listen to the Ballad of New Salem on his next big flight? :)

Where is that?
New Salem, ND. It's about 45 miles west of Bismarck, visible on the south side of I-94. I think it has an inner steel frame supporting the fiberglass body. North Dakota's comic genius Mylo Hatzenbuhler recorded a song called The Ballad of New Salem, to the tune of Marty Robbins' El Paso: "Out in the west river town of New Salem, I fell in love with a big metal cow."

It shares a hill with the white rocks spelling out the name of the town. The cow faces north and the letters are on the east side of the hill, so the picture above does not show the letters. Both the cow and letters are visible on Google Earth. Neither the cow nor the letters appears on the VFR sectional. It's at 46d51.17'N/101d25.58'W.

Ah. Now your comment in your other post makes more sense. :D

Even if we were on the east side, the letters wouldn't have been seen that day. They forgot to shovel them ;) Also, that being said...what is with ND spelling out city names on the ground. Bismarck has trees, Mandan and New Salem has rocks on hill sides.
Yeah, I should learn not to make inside jokes when speaking outdoors.
Can't say I've ever heard the song. Lol

16.5 hours?? Wow. I’m doing that trip in a couple of weeks (San Diego to Naples and back) for a few days with my parents who live in Naples. Going east it’s about 8.5 hours in the cirrus and 11.5 hours coming back westbound. I might split the return into two days depending on how I feel. And obviously I’ll be doing multiple legs to refuel, use the bathroom and stretch legs. I’m impressed you did it all in one flight!
