Wife is a machine! She's making me a pile of SPAM musubi. So here's a SPAM thread, because of reasons. What is your best SPAM recipe?

Open the finest can of your most favorite flavor of SPAM, and slice it up. Char it up in a pan for a bit. Marinade it in some fancy sauce. Make a pot of sticky sushi rice. Line SPAM can with plastic to use as a form. Jam a bunch of sticky rice half up the can and press down with the re-flattened lid of the SPAM can. Flop a slab of SPAM on the sticky rice and pull it out of the can. Wrap the stack with seaweed. Feast. Worship wife.

No special recipes, but I do like it and have a can open in the fridge and one unopened in the pantry. I just like to fry it up and put it on bread with mustard, or just fry it up and eat it by itself. I do by the low sodium though. The regular is just too salty for me.

Watching the food shows on TV, I noticed it seems to be a staple in Hawaii.

Never could develop a real affection for it. Just too damn salty for me. We used to buy it when the kids were still here... we referred to the gelatinous layer of congealed goodness as the "Spamotozoa". :) Yeah, junior high humor never gets old.

musubi!!

Do the mods allow spam on here?

Never cared for SPAM, but when I was a kid, I loved me a deviled ham and mustard (LOTS of mustard, please) sandwich in my lunch bag for school.

Spam is indeed big in Hawaii.

Ah. Good ol' Spare Parts And Meat. Was raised on it. No amount of Gucci Pop Culture it's the in thing now and it's on menus at restaurants and it comes in different flavors and cool looking cans is gonna change me. It's just cramming the most amount of calories and salt they can into the smallest amount of space they can. Keeps the soldiers moving. It was invented for the Army to put in C-rats.

I thought I read somewhere that Guam has the highest per capita consumption of SPAM. Growing up in Alaska as a kid, we all hoped Dad would get a moose. Otherwise, it would be SPAM and caribou for the winter.

A most excellent tutorial. Makes me want to go out and buy a can. Right now.
