Hey guys, I recently did my FIRC online with them also doing the paperwork, all computer time, didn’t even touch a airplane for it.

So I input it into foreflight and it’s showing my currency reset, now Ill end up doing a 135 ride before my old BFR was due anways, but did that -online- FIRC actually reset the clock on ones BFR?

I’m not one to question the all mighty foreflight, but my guy says sitting in front of a screen doesn’t exactly cut the mustard.

Thoughts?

14 CFR § 61.56 seems clear to me.

(f) A person who holds a flight instructor certificate and who has, within the period specified in paragraph (c) of this section, satisfactorily completed a renewal of a flight instructor certificate under the provisions in § 61.197 need not accomplish the one hour of ground training specified in paragraph (a) of this section.

But wait, as always it's not clear to me. LOL

Doesn't say anything about the flight training, which seems to me you need an hour in a plane.

What about paragraph (d)? I think this means that you had to do a practical test though. I'm terrible at interpreting FAR's.

(d) A person who has, within the period specified in paragraph (c) of this section, passed any of the following need not accomplish the flight review required by this section:

(1) A pilot proficiency check or practical test conducted by an examiner, an approved pilot check airman, or a U.S. Armed Force, for a pilot certificate, rating, or operating privilege.

(2) A practical test conducted by an examiner for the issuance of a flight instructor certificate, an additional rating on a flight instructor certificate, renewal of a flight instructor certificate, or reinstatement of a flight instructor certificate.

No, an online ground course does not reset the clock for a flight review. It renews your CFI, which, per the regs already quoted, waives the requirement for the ground portion of the FR.

The regs are clear. I don't know what the FF logbook was doing but I would be surprised if it wasn't something incorrect about your entry.

Just looked briefly at the FF logbook. I don't even see an entry for an FIRC.

I just changed the expiration date in qualifications

I went into the logbook (which I don't use, so there is nothing in it) and entered my current CFI certificate issuance and expiration dates. It did not set a FR expiration date, which still says "Not Current." Tapping on it just gives me a statement that there must be an activity tagged as a FR or checkride to set it.

You still need a flight review sign off by another instructor with time in an aircraft.
If you com0leted the CFI renewal by another flight with a DPE, then that would count as both CFI renewal and FR, but make sure he endorses the logbook for 61.56

Disregard

I just happened to do my .299 on the same month.
