Need help finding a quarter turn fastener

I’ve looked and I’m stumped.

My 182 top cowl has all but 1 fastener that is a Camloc -4 with a slotted head (captured to avoid driver slippage and paint scratches).

The odd fastener is the one pictured below. It says M 8 and is Phillips. The receptacle is a also different depth, so none of the Camloc -4s can grab the receptacle.

I want to replace the one odd fastener with a slotted one (because either (a) my plane is going to fall out of the sky, does not fly straight without it, and is unworthy of admiration, or (b) the pilot is screwy...not sure which).

Does anyone know who makes this, or where I can get a captured slotted head? I will pay a stupidly ridiculous ransom, trust me.

Also, are you sure that's a 0.480" diameter head?
 
Yeah, 0.480 head.

I just can’t figure out where the M8 name comes from. I looked online and my Spruce paper catalog. Haven’t tried Skybolt.

I will look again tonight. Maybe the dimensions will match something in the catalogs, cuz the M8 don’t.

Just to see, measure it in mm. Long time ago there were metric "camloc" but mfg'd under different name. They had their own collar and recepticle. If you tried to use a real camloc in its place it would fall out because metric was bigger in size. I dont remember if they had an M on it but your fastner seems a bit large.

in the Aircraft Spruce online catalog.....on the C-Spec 4000 series studs page, scroll down to the bottom and click on drawings and specs...it is much more readable than the paper catalog.
 
The part number is in the IPC,, google it.
 
The "8" is the reach or the depth it needs to go to lock into the receptacle. They come in different depths,
 
I hope it was worth it. I just wasted a couple of hours and 6 dudes’ time just so the head of one of the fasteners has one less slot. I coulda used JBWeld...

I owe you guys something.

That sounds much better. You should be good now. ;)

At least no one has suggested that changing from Phillips to Slotted is a major alteration!
