Bro do you even lift
ATC says "traffic, 5 miles, at some altitude going some direction, LOOK OUT!".....

so you lean forward as if that extra foot and a half removed from the five miles is gonna help you spot the traffic.

c'mon, who does it? eman does it. wtf.

In a Skyhawk, you can then see above you.

I use the lean of peek method...first I lean, then I take a peek.

I lean and peak and I laugh at myself every time I do it. Lately I do the double lean where I look out the windshield and then lean over and look at the tablet mounted in my panel that has ADSB in.

I do it, but not to close the distance. I do it to see around the door jambs. Except in the RV, since the canopy creates no obstructions.
Leaning forward doesn't let you see more of what's under the nose of the airplane?

Sheeeit, what's all this lean and peak nonsense? I just close my eyes and let Jesus take the yoke...
I used to do that, but I got tired of missing breakfast. No, wait -- that was the yolk.

Wrong thread?

I do it not because it shortens the distance but because it helps me to spot things that are hard to see. Especially if the windscreen isn't spotless.

I don’t lean, if I do, the CG shifts ...

Only if it has overhead windows. Not all of them do.

No, it's the ones WITHOUT the overhead windows where you need to lean forward to see above you...

But yes, I do lean sometimes, just to see around parts of the airplane. Nothing wrong with that...

It's the same phenomenon you see when driving around looking for a specific address, you turn down the radio. Why? Does quiet improve your eyesight?

Agree it's the same phenomenon. In both cases, it's a move which changes your focus. The lean is one of many unconscious mannerisms we have when we concentrate. The radio lowering is a way of limiting distraction so we can.

Apologies for the serious answer.

When I get into a freezing cold car in the middle of winter I’ll crank the radio super loud to help warm up before the heater gets going.

I don't lean forward but I have my thumbs ready to hit the tigers on top of the yoke and say "pew pew pew" as I shoot them down once they are spotted.

They are no match for this ace 182...

Unfortunately one of those triggers apparently is also the PTT switch.

Now we need a thread about stupid things we've said with a stuck mic!

hey....leaning forward works for lotsa stuff.....o_O
It works in the car. When I am almost out of gas, and the gas gauge is right on “E”, rocking back-and-forth can give you an extra 5 miles per gallon. Then you can pick up an extra 2 miles per gallon by just chanting with each rock back and forth, “come on baby!”

I have forgotten what "a freezing cold car in the middle of winter" is like. It only sometimes drops below freezing here, but was recently in the 20s when I went to work in the mornings. Hopefully that's all for the next couple of years . . . .

The only time I recall turning down the radio while hunting for an address is when a helper was riding shotgun, and it was easier to hear each other while looking out the side windows.

You people on PoA are strange . . . . . :aureola: Good thing everyone flies a lot, it reduces our time driving!

Im leaning towards this answer and others alike........
