I can’t be sure, but I am in a hotel at DFW overlooking the airport and there seems to be a large fire going on what it looks like inside the airport property...

Probably the fire and rescue folks practicing.

Or at least I hope so! :)

Well the airport is open and big birds are flying off and landing... so hopefully a practice run

How long are you in the area? You going to the MS campus right there on the frontage road?

The black smoke caught my eye and I was looking for what caused it. No associated activity on the ground so probably training.

When I ready to depart KLSE several months back I spotted some heavy black smoke down the row a ways. On the ground call to taxi he indicated they were doing Fire & Rescue training, partial taxiway closed, etc. That smoke is really, really black.

Yah I am at the campus, will leave around 430 and hopefully land in fargo

Burning hydrocarbons will do that.....

Divert man...for your own good. I think Fargo is gone, buried under 300ft of snow with Wind 320@185G735 :)

Looks like I am not going to fargo tonight, flight got cancelled. Any peeps in DFW want to hang around for dinner?

If you had pinged me last night... yes... but already made plans.

How often are you down this way and when would be the next time?

No idea. This was my first visit here

Looks like I might be here tomorrow night as well and as it stands right now, my flight is Saturday evening, I will try to change it to Saturday morning though

Friday night is open at this time.... Do you have transportation? And what hotel are you at? And any cuisine preference?

Texas BBQ at the Coppell Hard8 is good, but the restaurant will be super crowded on Friday night and parking there is lousy. A better alternative is the location 12-15 miles to the west in Roanoke, TX.

Also in Roanoke is Babe's Chicken Dinner House. And Twisted Root Burger.

If you want TexMex, a favorite of the group near KDFW is Esparza's in Grapevine.

Pinging others to see if they can attend. @JCranford @overdrive148 @SixPapaCharlie @Mitch817 @texasag93 @texashikergal02 @Ravioli @SCCutler

No cuisine preference, but had enough taco already in Texas.... anything with good meat, am all in. Staying at NYLO las Colinas, no transportation, but I can take Uber if need be. I will IM you my cell number

Just pinged you my cell. Also I might have a buddy with me, he isn’t a pilot, so be nice to him

We can hold the "where" decision for a little bit while the others check in.

Yupp anywhere is fine with me, just gotta have good beef
Well, then that narrows it down some

There are a few good choices that serve up some really good fire grilled quadruped not far from your lodging

Dangit Mike, you're making me really hungry! You guys have too much good food down there!

I can vouch for the quality of the Twisted Root, but when you're in Texas, why waste a meal on a burger, even if it's a really good burger? You've got excellent BBQ and excellent Tex-Mex, and combining the two in the form of the Brisket Taco is the reason the Founding Fathers created this wonderful melting pot we live in. (I swear, it's true, I heard it on the internet from Abe Lincoln.)

i walked to work with 22 degrees (feels like 11 degrees)...and i thought this was a warm place... guess misery follows

o well... still 40 degrees warmer than Fargo :d
